Post c-section HELP!!!

I had a RCS on Thursday, it went great! DS is happy healthy and nursing! But mommy is about to go insane. I had a bowel movement less than 24 hours after surgery, but haven't been able to go again! Now 96 hours post op and I am so bloated and miserable I can't stand it! Ugh! Suggestions anyone?!?

Re: Post c-section HELP!!!

  • Have you been taking laxatives? Drink a ton of water and eat prunes. I can only imagine (since I am a FTM and still pregnant) that you would do the same things that were suggested when constipated while pregnant.

  • Are you taking stool softeners? I highly recommend them, even when you feel like you don't need them. Lots of fluids. You can add some Miralax. Or prune juice.

I would suggest the same and lots of roughage (fruits and veggies). My dr said taking a stool softener was ok too.

  • Miralax and smooth move tea do wonders
  • You definitely need stool softeners every day. Right now you may be so backed up that they won't help right away though. I had to use suppositories at one point. Not pleasant but it got the job done!

  • My hospital gave me a script of Docusate to take twice a day.  Pretty sure it has saved my life.  Along with about 800 gallons of water (It helps to be a thirsty BFer!)

  • I ate stool softners like it was my job last time and that's all that worked for me. Or you can try a glycerine suppository

  • No suggestions other than what has already been posted - but feel your pain.  When my daughter was born 3 years ago, I was forced to have a c-section after an unsuccessful labor.  I swear that the resulting constipation/BM pain was worse than the labor.  Seriously.  Coulda used a epidural for that.  Hang tough.  You'll get thru it.
  • milk of magnesia did it for me. Sorry mama! Hope it is over soon!
