Getting excited about Halloween

It will be our first Halloween EVER with all 5 kids. First Halloween EVER with my SKs. I mean, we've celebrated Halloween on our weekends surrounding it before going to carnivals. We've been trick or treating with them once when we went on a camping trip and they had trick or treating around the campgrounds. But this will be our first official Halloween. DH has never gotten to go trick or treating on Halloween with SS9. They split when he was a baby and he was only a few months old on his first Halloween so he didn't go trick or treating with the older 2. Halloween has never fallen on our time. We even tried to work out something with BM one year when she ended up with the weekend before as well and we just wanted to take them for a few hours to a carnival. She refused and we didn't get to do any Halloween activities with them that year. She has never been cooperative about Halloween. I on the other hand take DD by her grandparents every Halloween I have her (where her dad goes on Halloween) so she can see him and every Halloween that he has her, he brings her by my parent's (where we go on Halloween) to see me.

I can't wait. DH is going to remind BM that Halloween is on our Thursday night this year. We also have them the weekend before.  DH has said that in no way, whatsoever is he giving her any of that weekend because of her past behavior. This is our one shot at Halloween with them. The next time if falls on our time will be in 2015 and by that time they will be 14, 13 & 11. So I doubt they will want to participate. We can still get the girls to participate this year because DS is young and they will help walk with him to the door.

My bet is that BM will not be happy when she realizes, but we are talking about missing 8 years of Halloween so she can deal!

  • Yay for the schedule working in your favor! We have only had my ss12 for one Halloween in 12 years also so I know how happy you must be!

  • Aw that's awesome!

So I just looked at our calendar, and technically BD could get DS this year because according to the CO he's allowed to take DS Thursday 4-7pm on his non-weekend weeks. But he hasn't done that in over 2 years, and he won't have his DD, so I doubt he'll even realize/ask. He will probably take the kids to something Halloween themed the weekend before, since he'll have both his kids then. And then according to the CO he won't have Halloween again until 2019 or 2020, depending on how we do our weekends (technically BD is CO'd EOWE Thurs-Sat, but I've been letting him do Fri-Sun. I imagine I'll continue to allow him Fri-Sun due to typical school schedules and BD's work schedules.)
