Another sippy cup question...

I'm probably missing a simple solution here... DD has no problem drinking from a sippy cup, or straw cup, or regular cup- she'll pretty much drink from any container.  But, she still hasn't figured out how to tip the cup back to get at the liquid while she's sitting up in her highchair, which means everytime she wants a sip, she looks at her cup and yells until DH or I tip it back for her to drink.  Then after her meal, we'll get her out of the high chair and she'll finish the sippy by lying on her back to drink (which automatically tips the bottom up.)  If she tries to drink from it while sitting up, she sucks a few times, then chucks the cup like it's broken.

I feel dumb for still not having figured this out, but how do you train them to tip the cup back?  I thought she'd have figured it out by now on her own...

Re: Another sippy cup question...

  • No advice. We gave up and she drinks out of a zoli - weighted straw cup so the straw stays in the liquid no matter how she holds it. Kid still doesn't hold her bottle 9 times out of 10. Figure she'll get it eventually - I'll press it more when we break out real cups

I assume you're using cups with handles? It took Harper a while to catch on that you have to tip it... even now she doesn't tip it much - we still have to help her. When we use the toss and go sippies, we have to hold them for her.
Yes, we can get her to hold onto the cup by the handles and try to drink- it's just the tipping the cup back part she doesn't do.

  • We have exactly the same issue. We switched to the straw sippy cup, but I still try the other now and then.

  • Does she mimic you yet? L got the hand of it by watching us. I would use her cup and hold it like she does, tip it up, and really exaggerated swallowing sounds. I have been know to 'see food' and drinks with her too so she can see it.

Straw cup for daytime and sippy at night when I feed her.

And FFS, do yourself a favor and buy a bunch of the same brand with interchangeable parts. I just donated 5 and bought a full set of playtex cups. I couldn't take another day of sorting through 100 parts to play lid - straw - handle jigsaw.
