Magic sleep suit or woombie?

Which one do you prefer and why? Since day DD has slept with her arms out of the swaddle. The nurses in the hospital scolded DH and I for not swaddling her arms. We told her every time we do she fusses and cries til she breaks her arms free and then she's happy as a clam. So the nurse said "arms in " and proceeded to swaddle her again and of course DD broke free. Anywho, I've tried so many times to put DD to bed unswaddled and she won't have it for 5 seconds! Which one would you recommend ? TIA!

  • We used the sleep suit because our LO would only sleep 1.5-2 hrs max. With the suit we get 4hrs (which still sucks IMO). I wouldn't go with the magic suit unless you have having bad sleep stretches.
  • I think that all depends on whether or not you want to stop the swaddle. The woombie will keep her arms restricted leaving her with the swaddle feel. I LOVE our woombie. LO usually sleeps at least 10 hours at night. He used to wake up more often when he would break out of the swaddle sack. I have not had any personal experience with the sleep suit. However, it is my understanding that it works great as a transitional piece from going from the swaddle to no swaddle. Their arms are not restricted. Some people want to drop the swaddle at this stage due to baby rolling over. My son rolls but the second he is swaddled he is content with laying still on his back. I know of some infants and have read of some being swaddled as late as 8-9 months. However, it's totally not necessary to swaddle an infant. I seems weird that the nurse would scold you for this. Swaddling became big when "back is best" went in to place to help prevent the startle reflex from waking up babies. If your LO is sleeping fine with out a swaddle, I wouldn't do either. Let us know what you decide.

  • She has to be swaddled to sleep but arms out. Around 6 weeks she started STTN. But about two weeks ago she started waking up as soon as I laid her down and I thought it was the 4 mo wakeful but she started waking up once through the night which I know could be worse. I would change her and give her an ounce of food, rock her to sleep try to put her in her crib but no matter how much I tried she only went back to sleep if I brought her in bed with DH and I. I don't want to start a bad habit because since we brought her home from the hospital she's spent every night in her crib.

Now the last couple nights she's waking twice a night. I feel like I'm driving myself crazy because DH rotates shifts every month so I have to flip my days around to do my normal things but keep her on schedule. She used to sleep 8-10 hours a night. But I'm not sure if it is the 4 month wakeful because from what I've read babies are up every other hour or so. Oh yeah, she'll be 5 months in 9 days.

Is your baby rolling yet? We thought DS hated swaddling too and he always broke free at first. Then we used the miracle blanket to swaddle and it worked like a charm. Even though he would fuss after first being swaddled, he would soon calm down and his movement reflexes stopped waking him. Now we use the magic sleep suit because he is rolling. We transitioned him out of the RNP to the crib and used the suit to ease the transition. We had some sleep regression for a few days (that may have been due to four month wakeful as well) but he is back up to almost 11 hours.

She rolls T to B. But she's working on B to T. Yay on your LO on sleeping like that! I'm jelly! Lol

  • I havnt used either of these, have you tried a sleep sack?

Haven't used either but we use the sleep sack with arms out since he rolls over once he's out down.
