I have a 5.5 month year old and have been using Charlie's Soap on his diapers since he was 2 months old. I have had some ammonia stink issues, which I think I have remedied with Funk Rock. Lately my little guy's poops have been thicker and stinkier for some reason (though still EBF) and now I am having barnyard smell, especially on the previously poopy diapers. I have kind of questioned whether Charlie's does a good enough job cleaning because it doesn't get even simple stains out of our clothes. I have tried increasing the amount of powder to 1.5 tbsp, but still have some odor. We have a water softener and a FL HE washer. Any suggestions on a detergent to try? Maybe BumGenius? Most of our stash is BG 4.0 with MF inserts.
I asked this on another forum and a lot of people actually really like Tide is what I noticed. I was looking for something that is easily found in stores and Tide and Ecos Free & Clear were the top recommendations. Not sure about brands you can order online though. We might just use Tide and if it doesn't work for use try Ecos.
Thanks everyone, I guess I will maybe try 2T of Charlie's (though I will probably need to do extra rinses to get it all out) and also order some Tide to try that. Just straight up original powdered Tide, right?
it works wonderfully for us, we have a front loading HE
Where did you find the washing soda and the oxygenated bleach? I just took a trip to Target and couldn't find either of those (even though the bleach in her picture is Target brand!) though I did get the baking soda and Dr. Bronners. I already have the 20 Mule Team Borax and I can't wait to try this!
I've always liked ECOS, but have never tried it with diapers. We've been using Nellie's Laundry Soda for all our household laundry for about 1.5 years, and have been washing diapers with it since DD was born in June. I love it! I bought the big pail from costco.ca (not sure if it is also available on the US site) for $94.99. We have had it for over 1 year and its not even 1/2 gone.
