Formula moms

So I'm having issues with Lo's formula. She started on similac advanced. That constipated her so switched to gerber good start gentle. Now she's super gassy and fussy. She's almost never happy anymore and it breaks my heart. Now I'm thinking to try enfamil gentle ease. We have gas drops and gripe water nothing is really helping. Anyone have any advice on formula?

Re: Formula moms

  • We switched to the Enfamil Gentlease when DS was super gassy and it's been great! We actually are on the Target brand and it's just as good. He was on Similac for one day and poor thing cried the whole day!

  • I had to supplement with formula after bf due to jaundice issues, and we used the enfamil gentle ease. DS seemed to take to it well, and I carry an extra bottle of the premade kind just in case. I never tried the powder form though, only the ready to feed liquid.

  • No advice here, but good luck!  It's hard to find the right formula!
  • DD started off on enfamil newborn, but was pretty gassy so we switched to gentlease. She has no issues. When DS was an infant he was also on gentlease...similac was very consitpating for him so I didn't bother with it this time.

  • We also use gentlease, gas drops and dr browns bottles. It's just the right combo for us.

  • We use the enfamil nutramigen but will also look into getting BioGaia Protectis baby drops which is a probiotic. Our pediatrician and nurses in the pediatric dept swear by this. Apparently it works wonders for gassy colicky babies.

  • I'm actually shopping now and picked up a 3 pack of dr browns to try. Ill see how this goes. Thanks :)

  • We use enfamil newborn. LO takes it good with the Dr. Browns bottles. Sometimes we have to use gas drops, I got the target brand.
  • When you're switching formulas are you consulting with your pedi first? If so, your pedi should be advising on what formula should work well for your LO.

We're using similac advanced since my LO was born and we haven't had any issues (yet).

  • Yes we switched to good start with the pedi. It's been 3 weeks she has become regular with pooping but the gas is horrible so I took it upon myself to try gentle ease. She has an appt next week so I will discuss it then. I want to see if it makes a difference. He also has me giving her a probiotic 3 times a day to make her regular
  • Im using doc brown bottles and target brand. Ds is taking to it well but i have some prepackaged travel sized enfamil gentle ease im excited to use

This exact combo worked for us too.  We started out with Similac Advanced and Avent bottles but on week 2 we had a fussy, gassy, inconsolable baby.  After seeking the advice of our pedi (which you really should do if you have not done so already) we switched to Enfamil Gentlease and gas drops, worked wonderfully!

We had Avent bottles too and tried similac, it was a big foamy mess. SO glad we found the right combo for us!

We use the Target version of Similac Sensitive.  Also, we use Dr. Brown's bottles.
  • We've been using the Playtex VentAir bottles and they've helped a lot too

  • We use Playtex bottles with the drop in's, gas drops and Similac. When I had to stop BFing, her pedi recommended Similac. He said if we had issues to switch to Similac sensitive. So far we haven't though.

  • My best friend is a nicu nurse and she does travel nursing so she's used different brands at different hospitals and fwiw, she said the gerber good start always makes the babies miserable they spit up SOO much more than the parents that choose similac

We tried good start with DS1 and it made him miserably gassy! We are currently using Enfamil newborn, but thinking of switching to Gentlease. Glad to hear everyone likes it!
  • We're currently figuring out formulas with our 2 week lo (Similac and Similac for fussiness and gas) but with our DD1 we eventually used Costco Kirland formula and it was great on her. May want to give that a shot too, and if it doesn't work you can always return it to Costco :)

  • try switching to a soy formula.  I would talk to your pediatrician before making anymore changes.  My baby is on Similac Soy and was only going once a day or once every other day.  The doctor said the digestive track trying to figure everything out and to wait it out...now she's going very frequently during the day.

  • I'm thinking about soy but will wait and see how gentle ease goes this week we have her 1 m appt next Monday so I will discuss it then. Thanks for all the feedback!
