Fetal doppler

In my last pregnancy I started using the angelsounds doppler at 15 weeks, and always found the heartbeat.. until 31 weeks when my baby died.
Well, it tried it today for the first time, asked my doctor first if it`s safe and he said that home use dopplers aren`t harmful. I couldn`t find a heartbeat, it`s much too soon, but I heard baby moving around! I`m 100% sure about it. I listened for aprox. 1 minute and he wouldn`t stop. My little olive baby :X

SOmeone used fetal doppler before 15 weeks? how soon can you hear a heartbeat?
Also, do you plan using it this pregnancy?

Re: Fetal doppler

  • I have one I purchased with my son I was able to hear his at 9.5 weeks. However it depends on maternal size how early sometimes.
  • Loading the player...
  • Next week I have an u/s so I won`t use the doppler> I`ll try again around 11 weeks :)
I have a normal weight so I hope to find it after a couple of weeks.

  • Yeah you should be able to. I always try right above the pubic bone and tilt the wand around. I've always had luck finding it tilted to the right. And have lots of patience! Good luck.
  • Thanks!
Yes, now it has to be just above the pubic bone.

  • I would like to wait to start listening until after my 12 wk apt and we have already picked it up at the OB's.  But...what I plan and what I actually have the self control to do are two very different things...

  • I've never heard of this! My first sono is on Wednesay which will be the 6-week mark. I'll definitely ask my doc. I'm a FTM so thanks for the tip!
  • I have the sonoline b and I can hear it 7 weeks

  • I don't know if I'd trust a product like this.  That's just a personal opinion.  I'd constantly be using it and freaking out if I didn't hear anything.

    I second what @RebeccaY1 said.

  • I like mine. I didn't use it very much with dd1. I did pull it out last night for the first time during this pregnancy and found the hb right away. I'll probably use it once a week or so until I start to feel movement.
  • I've been using mine already! I love it! Since I'm so early (9 weeks) it takes A LOT of patience. The key is to press hard right above the pubic bone and kind of tilt it down a little. That's what works for me!
  • I think I bought one last time around 10 weeks and I think I had troubles finding the heart beat around then too. Idk if I will buy another one this time. I think it caused more anxiety than anything.

  • I'm gonna start trying around 9 weeks but not expecting much til 10. I always found it last time with my DD but didnt really try til 12 weeks or so.

  • I bought the Sonoline B and it arrived on Saturday! I found the heartbeat yesterday and again this morning! So cool! BTW, during my last pregnancy I rented a medical grade doppler. I thought about doing the same this time, but read good reviews about the Sonoline B and it seems to work just fine!

  • I guess people feel like the fetal dopplers are safe? I've read you should keep exposure to Doppler and ultrasound as low as possible, balancing the need for diagnostics. That's probably way over cautious, but if I had one at home I'm not sure I could resist using it all the time!

  • I have the sonoline B and I could never find the HB until around 20 weeks.  DH was more successful than I.

I found the heartbeat every single time starting with 15 weeks ( I bought it then). The single time I couldn`t find the H/B was...when there already wasn`t a H/B. And I just knew there is something wrong. :(

  • @Rrrrrachel; I've read that, too, but I use mine so infrequently and for such a short period of time that I don't really worry about it. I will probably only use it 3-4 more times this pregnancy.
  • Like I said, probably an abundance of caution :). And as much not trusting myself as anything!

  • I would love one of these but am refraining from buying one bc I know it would cause my anxiety level to skyrocket.
