Reapplying for Social Security number, lost card... This happen to anyone else?

I applied for lo's social security card in the hospital, and never recieved it. Now I need it to put him onto our insurance (military). Has this happened to anyone else? How long did it take when you reapplied?

    You dont need to reapply, you just contact SSA to have a new card mailed to you.

    Really? Everything I've read says you have to reapply for a new number, as I never received his card so I don't know his ssn to get a new one.

    Go to the SS office in your town and tell them you did not receive LOs card. They will look in their computer to see if a number has been assigned, give you the number and a replacement card will be sent to you in the mail within 2 weeks. This is what I did and it was easy.
