Anyone else more lax in their pregnancy Do's and Don'ts?

I find myself being a little more relaxed in my previous do's and don'ts being that I'm so close to the end and I know he's fully development and such. For example, I confessed in FFFC that I had a little bit (1/4 glass) of wine the other night. (Don't worry, I don't plan on doing that again. It was a one time thing until LO arrive). Something that I would not have done previously. Also, I've had a cup of coffee three days in a row. This is also something that I would not have done previously either. Throughout my entire pregnancy I would have caffeine less than once a week.

Anyone else or am I the only one?

  • I've been living it up a little too, albeit at my midwife's suggestion.

Up until about two weeks ago, I had had four glasses of wine (spaced out, on special occasions) throughout this pregnancy.  When my midwife told me that I should actually have a glass to get my preterm contractions to chill out a little, I wholeheartedly embraced her advice and have had a couple of glasses a week since then.

  • I'm not more lax at the end vs the beginning, but I'm weird in that after my mc (13wks and I did every single thing by the book), I was more lax in my other pregnancies. I've only ever cut out caffeine in the first tri, of my first pgal pg, otherwise, I've always had a cup or two of coffee almost every day. I've eaten blue cheese, drank soda, had a sip of wine or beer (very rarely, because we just don't have it much anyways).

I guess I was really POed that I did everything 'they' say I should or shouldn't do, and still lost my baby, so I decided to not get so worked up about it with the rest.

  • I have caffeine on a semi regular basis to control my migraines. I've also had sushi a few times this pregnancy. So far LO has been perfectly healthy, so I'm not worried.

I have been soooo tempted to have some sushi! I would kill for a spicy tuna roll and albacore sashimi right about now. I have had one bite of sushi this entire pregnancy. I stole a bite of DS's salmon roll and it was heavenly.

Yep. I was very strict in first tri but starting in second I allowed myself an occasional caffeinated beverage and occasional sugar. Now I drink caffeine about 2 or 3 times a week and I also had a very small glass of wine a few days ago. The most crucial fetal development takes place in the first 6 weeks...when most women have no clue they are pregnant and aren't watching their diets or alcohol consumption at all. Baby still has brain development going on now but a tiny glass of wine isn't going to hurt them, a lot of European countries actually encourage women to drink a small amount of wine as studies there have showed toddlers developmentally ahead of toddlers who's moms avoided alcohol all together. Go figure.
Yeah a couple of my European friends keep telling me that if we were in Europe it would be weird that I didn't drink red wine during pregnancy. And I totally get that, but my Americanized brain won't let me embrace it. :-)

  • I've had a small weak coffee every day of this pregnancy , always sure to not go over the 250 mg suggested limit . I will do a refill every now and then . I had a glass of my favorite champagne the other night and it was sooo good !

  • I am no more laxed than I was at first. I eat cold lunch meat, sometimes eat too much crab meat in a week, and drink caffeine. I don't really drink so of isn't something I miss and I don't eat sushi.

  • I've pretty much eaten whatever I have wanted, except for what was on my OB's no list, high mercury fish and alcohol.

  • Yeah, I'll have the occasional glass of wine, or maybe a beer. When we go to sushi, I'll have a roll with raw salmon on top and I savor every bite..:) I just don't try to overdo it. Still in moderation. Caffeine, sometimes like iced tea or coffee with half decaf in there. The only thing I wont do is a monster/red bull which I still crave to this day. I gave it up for new yrs resolution. (Only one I've ever kept) which is good bc I found out I was preg later that month. . I think we will all be fine. But I almost feel like it will be harder with the nursing.  Just to make sure baby gets what they need, witbout the spicy, gassy foods that cause colic.. we will see.
  • Yup... I enjoy a daily cup (6oz) of coffee to control migraines...I did the same with dd :-) I also have enjoyed an occasional glass of wine during the later weeks....after 1st tri I have even had a few things off the "no-no" list like an occasional deli meat sandwich...mmm....I don't make it a habit, but I've enjoyed :-)

  • I drank coffee every day during my entire pregnancy and had a glass of wine here and there.  I didn't really change anything as I got close to the end because I didn't drastically change my life while pregnant.

  • I've been pretty lax this whole pregnancy. I slowed down in things like caffeine and lunch meat but I haven't thrown anything out entirely except alcohol. But it's more because the one beer or glass of wine that would be ok wouldn't satisfy me. I've never been a one drink kinda girl. But I will say that these last few weeks I've eaten the worst. I know it's horrible but there were a few days where I only ate carbs all day. Not a single vegetable or fruit or juice or anything. I agree, I think because I know that baby and I are healthy I've eased up.
  • I have monitored caffeine the whole time, but have likely had a little more than usual lately. I've eaten deli meat, but only a couple of times from somewhere I trust, and have had a sip of beer (very rarely) here and there. I agree - all things in moderation! Many other countries do things very differently and still produce smart, healthy babies!
  • I've been a little more lax the last couple weeks but for the most part I've eaten what I wanted in moderation. I've had iced tea almost every day, eaten cold lunchmeat and had seafood. I've only had a few sips of alcohol which is slowly killing me with all the fall flavors coming out. And I just made cookies and may or may not have eaten a bite or two of raw dough...

  • I keep chickening out on deli meat, I almost had Panera last night but ended up with a toasted sub at Subway instead. I've drank soda the whole pregnancy but only a can on Saturdays and Sundays. I crave Dr. Pepper, it tastes so good to me right now.

  • I never gave up caffeine, I'm not a soda drinker so it was a cup of coffee daily or a glass of iced tea and some days both. I have had wine here and there only one glass and all after the first trimester. Lunch meat on an occasion, maybe once a month, for some reason I'm craving turkey hoagies which I'm not usually a huge fan of. I have not had sushi which is one if my favorites but I feel like I'd be pushing it too much with that one However I did have smoked salmon a few weeks ago and it was delicious! I have a rcs on Wednesday so I plan to have all of the above by the weeks end!

Same here. I drink caffeine every day though.

  • I have definatly been more lax on my caffine consumption this whole pregnancy. I watch it to make sure I don't go over 300 mg but I do use the full 300 mg everyday.

  • FTM here but throughout pregnancy I never thought a mouthful of wine or two was a big deal.  I think I've had that maybe 4 times spread out over the pregnancy.  MIL had martini asti in the house last month and I had to indulge in a small glass - soo yummy!  I will drink caffeinated drinks but only once a day and not everyday but that's mostly because caffeine gives me heart palpitations even when I'm not pregnant.

Smoked salmon isn't raw! Go nuts!
  • Why would anyone have a sip of wine or beer? Seems silly. If it's just for taste, they make N/A versions of both.

I've had one cup of coffee a day and a glass of red wine here and there, though it doesn't taste the same to me as it did before. Deli meat, runny eggs... I've been lax within reason the whole time.

  • I had cooked sushi occasionally. I think I sneaked one raw tuna roll? No alcohol since I found out I was/am pregnant, but it turns out the first couple weeks of pregnancy overlapped Christmas parties and New Years. I had plenty on those occasions. I split my caffeine allotment between regular coffee/iced tea/Sbux or Tim Hortons frozen drinks. Considering I was a huge coffee drinker, this is a compromise.
I'll eat Panera sandwiches, restaurant feta- stuff like that. Now that the EDD is yesterday, I'm eyeing up furniture to move. ..!
