Taking LO out and about!

When is everyone taking your LO's out and about? With DS I was careful about where I went (not super crowded indoor places), but with this LO, I am more hesitant.

My doctor says to be very careful the first 8 weeks as they have very low immunity. I don't know why it's bothering me so much this time. I am so scared she's going to get sick. We have gone out on walks and even to the zoo on a beautiful day where she stayed in her carseat the whole time and was covered by an A&A blanket over her seat. But I am anxious to reach a point where I feel better about going places.

So, what is everyone else doing? Where are you going and at what age?

  • Yesterday, DD and I spent 3 hours at the mall, but I'm in so cal and our malls are outdoors. I was mostly there to enjoy the AC in the shops.

She is a almost 6 weeks. I was so proud of her she only had two short meltdowns. Also proud of myself for navigating the mall with a stroller, nursing in the dressing rooms, and not melting down with her.

She was in her stroller/ car seat and mostly covered the whole time. I think it's good to get out if the house.

  • We've already had our new LO out to the store a couple days ago. We needed to go grocery shopping so we went. It wasn't a big deal. I know they say you shouldn't take them out too often for the first few weeks, but sometimes it is unavoidable.

  • Our pedi told us at our first appointment that as long as we cover her carseat we could get out and about.
  • My LO is a week old, I haven't taken him anywhere. But that's mostly because I am not feeling great yet and I've had so much help from family and friends with meals and such.

I think I am going to take another week for me to relax and then start taking him out more. Thankfully DH and family have kept my toddler super busy all week. So I'm hoping he's ok with a mellow few days coming up!

  • We went to the grocery store yesterday and church today and LO was two weeks old this past Thursday. Our pedi told us that as long as he was not being touched by a ton of people and stayed in his car seat it should be ok because people won't get too close then.

  • We've been out and about since he was a week old; we've been to Buy Buy Baby, the pediatrician twice, Wal-Mart, Whole Foods, and out to eat.DH went back to work, and I have errands that NEED to be run. We went out to dinner on Friday and he did great, just snoozed in his seat or my arms. We're going to Chicago next weekend for my little brother's graduation from basic training. Our pediatrician didn't say anything about keeping him home and its not like I'm letting strangers wool all over him...DH works retail so I kind if figure LO is getting exposed to germs from him whether we leave the house or not

  • We have been to the ped 2x, once to the lactation consultant, and a few errands while we were out. She slept most of the time

  • We've been to the doctor and to BRU. That's it. Mainly bc my recovery has been slow and I just don't have it in me to get out. I'm very jealous of those of you who have been on the go since day 1. I'm entering my 2nd week at home and hoping DH will take me and LO out of the house a few more times before the next doc appt.

  • We've been to the pedi, my dr appts and the hospital (er/l&d) a few times. We also went to the farmers market once, target once, and H took him to lowes once. I've been really paranoid, too, but also haven't been up for it myself. It's finally cooled off enough that we might try a walk tonight, if I'm up for it.

I'm hopeful that as I start feeling better (and am comfortable driving/getting him in and out of the car and stroller) I'll get braver about taking him out.

  • We've been on walks, to the mall and to the grocery store. He is normally on the K'Tan wrap so no one has really gotten close enough to touch him.

  • We also have been out a bit.  I wear her in a carrier which keeps people from getting too close.  I also have a preschooler so staying home is difficult for him and me.  Our lo was in the NICU for two weeks and I was basically only at the hospital or home.  She has fully recovered from her rough start and we were given the okay to treat her as a normal newborn......keep washing hands, keep people from handling her excessively, especially strangers, and if people are sick, they should stay away for now.

With my son, we were taking him to NBA games at 3 weeks old, but he was in a Moby wrap.
It is nice that it is not cold/flu season right now so I am not quite as concerned.

  • Our LO is 2 weeks and we've been on a few errand runs the last few days.. Grocery store, grandparents house, doctors, etc. I thought I'd want to keep him inside for weeks but I was going stir crazy and pp are right- keep them in a carrier or car seat and ppl usually don't get too close. The poor guy got handled more the first few days from all of our visitors that going out in public is nothing for him.

  • We took LO to the family lake house last night, and to my work today (elderly retirement community). I just kept her in the car seat and showed her around, so she didn't get exposed to as many germs.

  • We haven't left the house much, I am still in a lot of pain from my c section so DH runs our errands for now. I can't wait to get up and about once I feel better.

  • DD has been out to the grocery store, target, out to eat.. a few car rides. 2w was her first outing. I think its good for the little ones to get out.
She has slept every where we've been.
  • Yesterday we all went to a Wellness Fair downtown and then to the playground.

Today we went to church and then to brunch and then walked around the lake.

I wore DD2 and no one tried touching her. We have lives to live and have never treated having a baby as a reason to become hermits. I wore DD1 anytime we were out as well; it's a great way to keep hands away.

  • We've gone everywhere! When we go on walks, ppl pay more attention to my bulldog than to him.

We've gone to farmers marker, the store, an outdoor summer concert, long walks, I basically haven't altered my to do list. He just comes along!
  • We took her to visit grandpa at work (cvs) and that's been it. I'm still doing the c/s shuffle so I can't get around easily.

  • I have two older kids who are in school and sports. She was at big brother's soccer game at 3 days old. I have no choice but to take her out and about with me. I haven't even given it a second thought, we are an on the go family.

  • Baby goes everywhere I go. Walks, grocery stores, etc. I haven't altered much. We don't go out every day but when we do baby girl is with us!

  • DS is a week old today.  We've been at either the doctor or the hospital (for blood draws) every day since we were discharged.  Today was the first day "off".  We have been out for 2 walks around our neighborhood.  We went to the mall today, but DH was too nervous to take him around, so I ran to 2 stores then he ran in to 1 while the other was in the car with DS.  Tomorrow is his bris, so we'll be at SIL's house with about 40 people.

We're planning on walking to town next weekend and going out to dinner.

  • Jumping over from September 2013 since DS was born 8/23. He's 9 days old and we've been to the pedi, out to breakfast and lunch, to the grocery store and to Target. Tuesday we are heading to the aquarium. DS#1 is 2.5 and gets stir crazy since we are typically on the go. I usually wear DS#2 and don't let strangers get too close.
  • We've been out and about; to the store once, out to eat twice, to a birthday party, and to family members house and she's just over two weeks old. At the store and restaurants we keep her in her car seat/stroller and she just sleeps.

  • Just wanted to add, although yesterday was our big adventure, we have been out before. She went to the pedi at 10 days old . Then again at 2 weeks. Then again at one month.

She'd also been to CVS, Whole Foods, and the LC at 3 weeks.

I'm a FTM and figure I need as much practice with the carseat/stroller/carrier dance as possible.

  • LO goes everywhere DB and I go. We all just got back from a weekend camping trip and it was a blast, she loves being outside. LO will be 6 weeks old on Thursday, but we haven't changed where we go because of LO. I just don't let people touch her.
  • We have been careful due to her pedi saying that any fever before 1 month old would be an automatic rehospitalization due to her short nicu stay after birth. I run quick errands but we haven't been to church or other high germ places where people would try and touch. One more week and we can ease up a bit.

  • Just got back from a weekend camping trip also. Piper loved it. She slept a seven hour stretch last night. I think all the fresh air maybe had something to do with it. Regardless, that was one of many outings I've taken her on. She's just under 3 weeks. Other outings include lunch dates, movies, tons of stores, ball game, etc. staying cooped up at home is just not an option for me.
  • My pediatrician said places like the store are fine because he'll keep covered and people won't be in his face or being passed around. He told me to avoid places like church for 8 weeks..
  • DS is 4 Weeks today. We went to DD's daycare to visit at 5 days old, dinner with the inlaws at 6 days, church at 7 days and every Sunday since, my work at 10 days. We've been on about 10 shopping trips, out to eat 5 times, went to a family reunion yesterday, and today we even went to visit my grandpa in the hospital!
  • We've been out and about since the day after we came home from the hospital. We had to go to Wal*mart because I absolutely had to have a pump. Thankfully no random strangers tried to touch her. Then yesterday she went to her check up.

  • We take her everywhere. She's just over a month now. We've taken her out to eat, the mall, grocery shopping, and the haunted house we work at. And we're on the way to the beach now. Like other pp's have said, I don't let people touch her or get in her face. Use hand sanitizer, etc.

Did you go camping as in tents and camp stoves? Or cabins? What did you sleep LO in?

We have a camping trip planned at Christmas and I'm thinking that's too soon but maybe not.

  • We went to Target at 4 days old because I had to get a pump, went briefly to the coffee shop two times and been on a walk. LO will be a week tomorrow. I keep him covered and no one touches him. My theory is, the pedi office has way more germs than his car seat so why not take him out for some fresh air?
  • We have been out and about since the day I came home from the hospital. We have a 6yo and 8yo, so staying home and inside is just not an option.
