My 5 week old LO started with the screaming about 3.5 weeks ago. I've read lots of colic horror stories, but this is different. My Ped called it "the absolute worst case of colic I've seen in 18 years of practice." How bad? 24/7 screaming-like-she's-on-fire crying. For 4-7 hours at a time after which she'll sleep for 10-20 minutes...just long enough to energize herself. Then it's another 4-7 hours. All day. Everyday. Feeding? Can't switch formulas because she won't eat enough to know what works and what doesn't. She's too busy screaming to eat and wont take a bottle or binky. She has eaten about 2 ounces total in that last week and half (o ly because we literally had to "pour formula down her throat) We've tried every trick in the book. We've been to the emergency room a few times. We've been to 6 different peds in the last week and a half. The last Ped we went to is deeply concerned that if we can't find d a solution, our baby could possibly die of exhaustion and/or malnutrition. She has referred us to a GI specialist and we'll see what happens. In the mean time, we're desperate for answers. Anyone out there that can help with advice that we haven't tried, please help. Any Angels or miracle workers out there? WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME!
Re: Ped confirmed worst colic she has seen... Help?
If what you are describing is true, your baby would be losing large amounts of weight, be chronically dehydrated, and be showing signs that there is something medically wrong (not 'colic', which is not a serious medical problem -- rather a behavioral thing that is harmless). It's time for you to get some answers. I would demand to see that GI doc like today. Better yet, go to the ER and don't leave until they admit your baby and line up a bunch of specialists to figure out what is wrong. If your doctor is saying your baby could possibly die, then you need to be in the hospital ... like now. Not sitting and waiting for a GI appointment and letting your ped dick around.
I kind of get the feeling this is a fake post. It's your only post.
If it's not fake. Then take your baby to the hospital and have them hook baby up to an iv for fluids and a feeding tube for nourishment.
This is NOT colic. You baby is likely in severe pain or is trying to tell you that something is severely wrong.
Any baby that has only eaten 2oz of formula in a week is in severe trouble. No doctor should allow such a baby out of their care.
