Bottle feeding APers

So, if BFing had worked out, I really dont feel like I would be weaning yet. Pedi suggested we started working on dropping the bottle now. I have two big concerns about him staying on the bottle and that is that he was a crazy early teether and his tubes are falling out so Im concerned about the vicious cycle of ear infections coming back.

I know if I take away his bottle, he will be very upset and confused at night. I love our bedtime routine as it stands. Brush teeth, read stories while he works on a milk bottle, I turn out the light, he finishes his bottle and rolls over and falls asleep without it. When I go to bed, I bring a bottle of water and he drinks that if he needs it in the middle of the night.

So he always drinks water at night which does help, but I still worry about bottle rot and ear infections. So do I leave it? Are you bottle weaning soon?

Re: Bottle feeding APers

  • Would he take sippy cup instead of a bottle and then you could gradually wean that?

  • We had a bedtime routine of bath, teeth brushing, and then cuddle time with a last bottle before we put DS in his crib for the night (without a bottle). We had that routine down to a science and had a great sleeper so I was scared to rock the boat.  But, I started to get worried about DS's teeth so I realized I needed to give him his bottle (actually by the time I did this, he was getting sippy cups of milk) before teeth brushing.  In the end? He was confused for a couple nights but he adjusted pretty easily to the new routine.  It probably will not be as difficult as you expect.
