3rd Trimester

Dr. Brown vs. Tommee Tippee

So after lots of research these are the 2 bottles I've come to as my favs! I plan on breast feeding (hoping it works out) but will still of course need bottles and then if he does end up on formula will need bottles. Just wanting to get opinions from people who have actually used these bottles and see which you prefer :)

Thank you!!

Re: Dr. Brown vs. Tommee Tippee

  • I don't like Tommee Tippee bottles. They are hard to wash, the nipples break down so fast, and with the design of the barrel of the bottle you end up having to put the baby on their back to empty the bottle.

Dr. Browns are nice, but its a lot of parts to wash. Each bottle has 5 pieces to it that have to be washed.

If I had to pick between the two though, I would go with Dr. Browns.

    I agree with PP.

I likes the Playtex Vent aire wide month bottles. Less parts, cheaper and just as good as the two listed.

Yeah I was finding with the Tommee Tippee the shape/size were a little awkward!! I have more of Dr Brown (what I registered for) but had a coupon as to why I went with Tommee Tippee on some too, and then people's opinions. I feel like it's just one of those things you have to try before you would know lol!!
    Which bottle do you use???

In the passed its been the platex drop-ins, advent, Dr. Browns for a while cause of a gassy kid or regular old gerber. Each of my girls like something different.

I'm planning on ebf with this one and refuse to buy bottles or have formula in the house so I stick with it. All of my girls were bf for about 3-6 months, so I'm hoping for a lot longer this time around.

  • I breast feed and naturally moved DS to Dr. Browns. I liked them because DS was naturally gassy and they helped with that. Hence the 5 piece system.

Yeah I'm hoping to strictly breast feed the first 3 months until I go back to work but just wanting to have back up plans for while I'm home and then once he's in daycare.
Good luck and thank you for the great advice :)
  • The other thing to consider is it all depend on what your LO wants to feed from. DS didn't like what we got from our baby shower and preferred the madella bottles.

  • We used Dr. Browns and really liked them, you just have to make sure not to over fill or they will leak. This time I'm trying Playtex drop ins, I hated cleaning DB's and I'm afraid my son will revert back to the bottle if he sees his sister with "his" bottles. Anytime we had friends over he claimed they had his baba! He just turned 2 and we had a hard time breaking him from the bottle at 21 months. So it's worth a try for us to use a different kind.
  • Although Dr. Brown has a lot of parts, I like it better. I'm not using it for my baby, but working in an infant room, I was more of a fan of the Dr. Brown bottles.

  • I'm going to start using tomme tippee bottles they are easy to clean and don't have to many parts to clean...plus now on tommee tippee they have the anti colic bottles...But the again it's ur choice
  • I ebf #1 until I went back to work. We started with Dr brown bottles but both #1 and I hated them. She had a lot of trouble with either getting milk out or getting It out too fast. We switched to Avent bottles and were super happy with them as she moved from bm to soy formula (and never had a problem trabsitioning from bottle to boob at night). Never used tommy tippee so I can't comment on those.
  • IMO bottles are the single hardest thing to try to buy before baby gets here. I exclusively nursed for the first month and then dh went to take over one night time feeding with milk that I had pumped. We went through many different kinds of bottles and my son finally settled on the nuk brand bottle which is like one of the cheapest things you can buy. He also preferred the 3-6 month nipple size because he was used to my fast let down and wasn't willing to put much work into it. I guess my point is, don't stock up on any one brand because you just can't predict how it's going to go.

We use Dr Browns only. There are a lot of pieces but it doesn't bother me since these bottles actually help prevent gas, spit up and burping - and they work. They are worth it!!

  • I liked Avent. Simple pieces and easy to clean.

  • I loved the tommee tippee bottles- I breastfed and pumped after going back to work full time and we were going through 6-8 bottles a day, no problems.  They were pretty easy to clean and no complaints about the nipples.  We'll see what baby #2 likes, but I'm hoping he'll like the TT bottles.  Though now they have the anticolic parts?  I haven't looked into those yet.  I had a friend who tried almost every bottle out there.  I think her daughter will occasionally take the TT (she borrowed a few from me).  My point being it depends on what your baby will take, which may not be what you've gotten from the shower :)

  • I have lots of experience with both. I'll be breast feeding and using tommee tippee bottles. Unless there is a problem with reflux, then I'll try DR. Browns wide mouth.

  • I used Dr. browns with my daughter and they worked great. But I was so sick of cleaning all the stupid parts I bought TT bottles this time around. Hope this baby likes them!

  • I took a breast feeding class and they recommended the tommee tippee, advent and Playtex closer to nature brand because of the nipple shape being closer in resemblance to a real nipple.  They say it is less confusing to baby when going from breast to bottle.  I registered for Dr. Brown bottles so that is what I have.  I debated about exchanging them but kept them.  I am more worried about having an uncomfortable gassy baby than him being confused by nipples.  I figure if he is hungry enough he will figure out the whole nipple thing pretty fast.  Guess we will find out when he gets here!
