Lovey blankey in the crib?

At what point would you be comfortable letting your babe sleep at night with one of the small lovey security blankets?  Mine loves them for naps, stroller, and carseat.  The other day I was watching her try to pull her sleep sack up and hold it like her lovey.  She rolls easily and frequently both ways, sleeps on her belly now, and has good head control.

  • I wa reading something the other day that suggested 6 months was a good time frame for that. Wish I could remember the source.

  • I don't have an answer, but my LO loves his loveys and blankets during nap time. When he's in the swing he pulls the blanket over his face and sleeps that way. It drives me crazy but I cover part of my face when I sleep so maybe he somehow inherited it! He doesn't get anything in his crib at night, though.

  • My LO LOVES his security blankets when he is getting tired. He rubs it on his face and holds it close to his chest. If he's in the swing, I let him have it but watch him. However, when he goes into his crib, I take them away from him. I will probably wait until I think he's ready and more older at this point. It just makes me so nervous!

I read this too. Want to say it was either Baby 411 or Sleeping Through The Night by Mindell. DS has the little bunny in my siggy pic in the crib with him. It's quite small and light and not a suffocation or strangulation hazard. I wore it in my bra for a few days to "charge" it with my scent and it does seem to help with his sleep.

Thanks everyone. I just asked my friend who asked her father (a pediatrician).  He said 6 months.  So I guess I'm waiting a little longer!
  • I will give one to DS, watch him on the monitor as he puts himself to sleep, then take it out of the crib once he's asleep.

  • My son has been sleeping with one in the crib for a few weeks now. It's the only way he can sleep.
  • LO goes to sleep with one...she plays with it usually gets it across her face at some point but I always go in and move it and once she is asleep I pull it away.
