Potty Training....

My son will be 3 next month and has FINALLY taken to potty training. Woo hoo!!!! We've tried many many time over the last year or more & he was just not interested. We've been at it for 3-4 weeks now & he has mastered not peeing in his pants. At all. Takes himself to potty even. Yayy!!!
However, we have a new problem. He WILL NOT have a BM on the potty. Will not. Says he doesnt like it. He'll poop his pants & tell me afterwards. Has an accident every day at school (day care) and i do not know what to do to convince him to tell me before or to use the potty. I bought him his own potty, no go. Tried fiber supplement/extremely gentle laxative because he said it hurts to poop a fee times. No difference. Except a slightly messier mess in the pants.
Ive stopped letting him wear big boy underwear because im tired of throwing them away. We're back in pull ups. Which he keeps dry, still pee's in the potty very well.
Im over the poop! Lol and he could care less. The fact that he tells me immediately afterwards is an improvement though.
Does anyone have any suggestions to try and get him going on the potty? Im also 14 weeks pregnant with #2 and still quite queasy. So all the poopy underwear is a no go lol.

Re: Potty Training....

  • DD refused to poop on the potty for a while. Except she was just holding it for days at a time, so we went with prune juice to try to get her to at least go. But I know that's not your problem.

What finally got her to go on the potty was chocolate. We don't have candy or treats like that regularly so it was a big deal for us to be giving it to her. What we did was, I went on the potty and let her see, then I went and got myself a piece of chocolate. She asked for some and I told her it was only for people to eat after they pooped on the potty. She marched her little butt right into the bathroom, sat down, pooped, got up and asked for chocolate. We haven't had any problems since. She goes everyday and gets a chocolate after. She doesn't ever get chocolate for any other reason. Now she sits on the potty and tries to make herself go just to get it! Haha.
    Good luck.

  • We had the same issue for awhile. Started PTing in June and only now is he doing better about doing #2 on the potty. For awhile I would offer to put a Pull-Up on him when I knew he had to poop because he was holding it and making himself constipated. I'd rather he poop in a diaper than not poop at all! I did offer bigger bribes, like a fun size bag of M&Ms. He'd get excited about it but still would freak out about the potty. I do think for awhile he couldn't tell the difference between when he was just passing gas and when it was poop but now he seems to be able to.

So I guess I don't really have any suggestions other than to say most likely it is something that will come with time. I think for a lot of kids doing #2 on the potty is intimidating.
