3rd Trimester

35 weeks - Movements

It seems like she hasn't been moving very much yesterday or today.  I have felt a couple of little movements, but normally she is very active.  Is it normal for a baby to have a "lazy" day?

Re: 35 weeks - Movements

  • My LO has lazy days, but that's happened throughout my whole pregnancy. My dr said around 28 weeks to use my past movements as a guide. Since my LO would be crazy one day then calm the next, that's what I'm used to. If your movements seem out of the ordinary, it can't hurt to call the dr.

  • My LO slowed down a lot around 35 weeks.  Kicks don't even feel like kicks anymore, mostly just stretching and pushing.  I little ice cold Dr Pepper usually gets him moving pretty good though!

  • Have you tried any of the normal things that used to get them moving? Ie cold water, laying down, flash light, ice pack? If you have and they're still not moving much, I would call the doctor to get their advice.
  • Oh yeah.  If I didn't feel anything at all, I'd be worried.  But a slow day doesn't concern me, assuming it probably picks back up the next day.

Sometimes I try to encourage movement by drinking some orange juice and laying down.

  • Like a lot of the ladies said... Babies are supposed to slow down a lot. I know with mine we would have a day here and there he was less active by a lot! And then other days he STILL feels like he doesn't sleep and is running a marathon! I contributed his lulls to a growth spurt. Just because usually the following days I felt a lot bigger. (Could have been in my head) :) But he's healthy!! My doctor said 10 movements in 2 hrs at least.
  • I had this same scare yesterday. I was 34 wks on Saturday and I noticed about mid day yesterday I hadn't felt him much. I drank some caffeine to see if that helped and then ate dinner, still nothing so I called my dr just because I started to get worried, I usually feel him or at least him getting hiccups a good bit throughout the day. Well she told me to lay on my left side with peanut butter and some sort of juice and give it an hour and to encourage him to wake up by moving my belly. Thankfully that woke him up good!! Had us a little worried but she said about 34/35 weeks the movement starts slowing down just because they run out of room. Glad to see I'm not the only one!!
  • I don't know if anyone else notices this, but I've found especially while I'm at work that I don't just "feel" the movements, that I have to make an effort to place my hands on my belly and pay attention to the movements. So it'll feel like a slow day for baby but when I put my hands on my belly I can feel a lot more than when I don't actually touch it.

  • Thank you guys for all the advice!  Everything was fine.  She was just having a slow day and her movement picked back up again the next day.  Sorry it took me a few months to respond.  I haven't been on here in a while.  :)
