Pink eye - should avoid swimming?

My son was diagnosed on Friday with Pink eye, the Dr said it was contagious for 24 hours. We've been administering the eye drops since Friday.  His eye looks a lot better today, no more goop.
 We had committed to going to a friend's house out of town and they have a swimming pool, and once my son sees that pool , he will want to be in it for as long as I let him.  Should we cancel our plans and avoid the pool?
