Formula question

For those of you who formula feed... How much do you spend each month on formula for your LO? We might be switching and are curious for budgeting purposes

Re: Formula question

  • The $35 refill box of Enfamil lasts me about 10 days, but he is still getting 2 bottles of frozen BM a day too until that runs out.  I make all 6oz bottles of formula.

Sign up for all the formula programs and you'll get checks in the mail to use.  Plus BRU usually does some decent deals.  I just got $117 worth of formula today for $52 thanks to coupons and checks.

  • It's too late in the day to make me do this much math. :P

We were buying it at B.J.s and with an Enfamil check would spend 39.99 for enough formula for 2 weeks.  We just switched her from Gentlease to ProSobee and I don't know if they have that at the warehouse store.

  • We spend $72 every 2 weeks on Gerber Goodstart Soy sensitive. So roughly $150 a month including taxes.

We are about to switch to Allementrum or some type of hyperallergenic formula after J gets a blood test for MSPI and we will be spending around $105 every 2 weeks. Hopefully insurance will cover some of that cost.
  • We spend around $130 a month. We get Similac Sensitive @ Costco for $35.99 for a 2.13 lb container and I use $5 Similac checks (sing up your whole family for them) we usually buy 4 containers a month so 35.99-5= $30.99x4= $123.99 give and take taxes.
  • Thankfully, daycare provides Similac Advance, so we've got DD settled on that. We probably provide about 2/3 of her formula intake - we go through a $23.99 (Target price) tub every 10 days, excluding daycare and when we're out and use the 4oz. packets. That's a bit convoluted, so I'm not sure if it helps. It's good to note, though, that the 4oz. packets are actually much cheaper per oz. if you're using a formula check, which I always have.

  • We use the BJ's brand. $20 for a large container and go through roughly 3 per month...$60 a month.
    3 ectopic pregnancies (EDD's 1/30/12-tube removed, 6/2/12-methotrexate and 10/2/12-methotrexate)
IVF and Natural FET resulted in BFN's and a hole in our wallets
Natural BFP #4 on 9/7/12 gave us our miracle on 5/18/13

I'm jealous! Our daycare provides enfamil but we started our LO on Similac and didn't want to switch.

Haha, yeah, we actually started on Enfamil, but since she was only getting a few ounces of formula per day up until the past month or so, it wasn't a huge deal to switch!

  • LO is on similac alimentum RTF is all she takes which is more expensive.... So roughly $300 a month.:-(. Trust me it hurts our pocket dearly.
  • I EB, but I am going back to work on Tuesday and I will not be pumping so I am going to try to nurse him in the morning and evenings and see how my supply is and if his willingness to nurse keeps up. I buy off of amazon and I signed up for subscribe and save for Gerber Good Start Gentle.  I got 6 12 oz cans of powder for $78.  I am not sure how long it will last, but I will let you know.

A tub lasts us about 10 days. M usually drinks 5, 6 oz bottles a day. Therefore, without checks and/or coupons it's about 75 a month. Luckily, we usually have checks and/or coupons to cushion the cost.

We use Earths Best, Organic. At $23 per can, which last us exactly 1 week. So $95 a month. She drinks 4oz 7 times per day/night.

ETA - the $23 price is through Amazon Subscribe and Save program. It's $30 in stores.

  • My son drinks similac advanced and goes through a 1.45lb container every 4 days which is about $170 a month. We are just now starting to get checks. Thank goodness.
