Black/Blue spot under gum where molar is coming in?!?

So DS has a bruise/blood blister under/on his gum where his molar is about to pop through?  Anyone else have this happen?  I saw it and freaked out thinking it was decay or something (we brush his teeth and he RARELY gets juice or anything too high in sugar) and called the Dr. and they said its rare but it happens and to just give him motrin and call back if it doesnt go away :( Poor guy, I can't imagine how bad this sucks!  He is getting all 4 eye and 4 molars at the same time!

  • Liam had this and it was huge.  Our doctor told us it was a teething cyst and should go away on its own after a while.  It's basically where the new tooth has broken a blood vessel under the gum and the blood has pooled making a blood blister/bruise on the gum.

  • It's called an eruption cyst and is 100% normal.  It will probably bleed a little when the tooth comes in, so don't be alarmed!  A lot of times kids will get them when their permanent teeth come in also.
  • I read in some baby book that this can happen and is not harmful.

  • They can bleed A LOT, not just a little. My daughter has had a few with her teeth and one time she woke up and there was blood everywhere. It scared the shiit out of me and then I remembered she had that thing on her gum.

  • Yep, it's just an eruption hematoma and will go away after the tooth pops through. Don't worry!
