Saturday Successes!

Alright friends,
Lets hear what you had success with this week (that is not necessarily TTC/pregnancy related!)

QOTD: In honor of opening weekend of college football: What are your feelings about sports (like, tolerate, indifferent, bored out of your mind)? What sports do you watch? Do you have a favorite college team?

Baby Hayden Frances born 12/20/14 at 11:11 a.m...  Our perfect little miracle.  Here's how we got here:

  • I TOTALLY took a shower.  #winning

QOTD: I have to say I hate sports.  Hate playing them, hate watching them (live or on TV), hate talking about them.  My wife loves them so we definitely don't see eye to eye on that one.  I will go to Fenway Park with her occasionally and go get her hot dogs and beer so she doesn't miss any of the action.

  • We managed to get two miles down the road in one hour to start off our road trip to Breckenridge. (English sarcasm) Alarico had two nappy changes, three boobs and eventually his favorite muslin blanket was the secret weapon. We're now back on the road and en route to our vacation.

QOTD: I was that drama club kid who used to walk past the girls locker room after a rugby game muttering, 'lesbians' under my breath. So no, I'm not sporty. I like watching baseball and cricket though, those players have the best bottoms!!

I know that this board is not judgemental, so I am going to be honest and say I am proud for getting through this week in one piece.  To me that is a success! I was in the 2WW, trying to juggle multiple jobs (quitting one without having the exact start date of another), a major gas leak in the complex of our friends (and KD) so they had to spend the day at our house, the gas leak also effected me working one night (I babysit a 4 year old in the evenings), we had a major billing discrepancy with our power company and our power almost got turned off, all while trying to wean off my sleeping medication to become less dependent on medications.  All of this has added up to me being very emotional, a little crazy and just plain exhausted.  I am really hoping the weekend is relaxing and we are able to get a lot of done around the house.  That will make me feel much more productive and not so out of control of things.
Sorry for the debbie downer post :-(
QOTD:  I am a huge college football fan, mainly Ohio State University.  I was born and raised here in Columbus, so its pretty much their religion.  Its always fun in our house because my wife is a Penn State and Michigan fan, so we have trash talking and bets throughout the season.

  • @trisholio -- I can think of no reason to judge you!  That week sounds like a bitch.  Glad you made it through.  Also, I was not aware that OSU fans and Michigan fans were allowed to co-habitate.  Kudos to you for making that work! :)

  • A and I had a lot of success this week with getting our house in order. As it was my comp week off of work after the summer, we used it to get things really clean. Every shelf, every closet. It feels so much better now that there isn't clutter everywhere! We also did some redecorating (rearranging 2 rooms, and repainting and redecorating another.). I also napped everyday... Which was nice because I usually make myself go go go.
QOTD: Obviously (because this is my question) I LOVE college sports. Basketball and football are my favorite seasons. Louisville is my favorite team (born and raised in Louisville and its my alma mater.) I am unreal excited about fall coming and football season being in full affect.

@trisholio Sounds like a crazy week! Sometimes surviving is the biggest success you can have in a week. Think about you all for a better week. Also, Ohio State is my #2 favorite football team and #3 basketball team. I am learning to love them. Hoping to get to at least one game this fall!

ball.and.chain we just have to agree to disagree when it comes to our favorite teams.  people ask me how we can be married and her be a michigan fan, i just say everyone has flaws and that is her biggest one...haha.  we are going to have to get our future child a "house divided" outfit for sure

  • I successfully worked my wife's opening event at her new coffeeshop located inside a brand new 10-court tennis facility here in Seattle. We served BBQ pork sliders (we smoke our own meat and it's on the menu always at her original shop), potato salad and cole slaw. I managed to only irritate her once (whoops) and otherwise did a good job working in a world that is not normally my own. Though, it was cute at the end one of her young employees said "Wow, you did a good job! I kept looking for things to do and you'd already done them!" It was cute, but in my own defense I worked a sh*t ton of food service jobs in college. I actually loved it :) Now, my feet hurt from a 5-hour gig! Lame! Bonus I went to Bikram Yoga on Friday for the first time in like a year + (I used to practice 6x/week for years and years) - and I went to Yin Yoga Saturday. #winning

QOTW:  I have tended to morph on this based on who I'm with. Ok so I've had 3 serious relationships in my life. First one, she loved rich-girl sports (she was a rich girl from New England) - so tennis and skiing were what she watched. It bored me. Second relationship was ~7 years with my high school first love, she is a mega-sporto and had read every Sports Illustrated cover-to-cover since age 9 (and kept them in our basement)...so during that time, I tended to watch more football and basketball (she played Div 1 ball in college). Now, J *hates* just about all sports. However - I love college basketball because they play with so much emotion and passion, I'm definitely a Steelers fan and I love to watch NFL games, esp. if on an elliptical at the gym. And, attending an occasional Mariners game is fun but usually more social. And - Seattle is a HUGE Soccer town - going to a Seattle Sounders game? Now that is a purely amazing social/human experience, the sports aspect aside. :)

  • Ok- I am going to NOT write anything about TTC in this post, because I recognize that it is currently consuming my life, and I feel like it is all I think/talk about... Sooooo..... This week's success was making a dear friend very happy and giving her a special day. My wife's college roommate is a very good friend of ours and she was a bridesmaid of ours and now she is getting married and my wife is one of her bridesmaids. Yesterday was her bridal shower. My wife planned, organized and executed about 95% of the shower. I helped my baking cookies and cupcakes for the sweets table and helping with set up and clean up. It was a beautiful day and our friend was thrilled and loved everything. It felt good to be a part of something that made her so happy. QOTW: I hate sports. All of them. Watching, playing, listening to convos about them... I don't have much else to say about it. I used to feel like I needed to apologize for not liking sports. Like it made me an incomplete/inferior person, but I have outgrown that. Sports just aren't my bag, and that's all.

    Me - 30, My wife - 31 , Together for 10 yrs - Married August 2012

    5 medicated IUIs w/ RE (March - July 2013) = BFN

    Fresh IVF Cycle in September 2013 resulted in 18 mature eggs, 16 fertilized, 12 made it to day 5. Transfer of 2 Grade A blastocysts on 9/15/13, and 10 embryos in the freezer!      *****BFP on 9/25/13 - betas: @10dp5dt = 232; @12dp5dt = 465; @15dp5dt = 1,581   *********William George born June 4, 2014*********
  • @trisholio, I have a friend from Columbus whose father told her she would have his blessing to marry whomever she wanted, except a Michigan fan.  She married a guy from Connecticut with no allegiance to any particular team, and he has been successfully converted.  Go Bucks!

  • I successfully went swimming with my clothes on because it was too tempting not to do! We were walking the dog in a big park where people all have their dogs offleash (even though technically you're supposed to have them on leash) in the small city where M's mom lives. We were hanging out with M's friend and her husband and 3 kids. There was a pond there that turned out to be a great swimming hole. All the dogs and kids were having a blast swimming, so I decided to empty my pockets and join them. I had such a lovely time swimming and playing with our 4 year old friend.

QOTD: I'm a jock. I love playing sports, especially baseball (hardball, not softball) and have played since I was a kid. I now play in a women's baseball league in Toronto and used to play in one in DC. There are a few such leagues and it is great to have women to play baseball with. I also like playing basketball. Other sports I mostly play here and there in pick-up game fashion--soccer, football, etc. In college, I played rugby on the club team for two years. In high school, I did a couple years of volleyball in addition to basketball and track and field. In college, my big sport was track. I was a thrower--shot put, hammer, weigh, and discus. I loved it. And was very competitive (especially in shot) at the NCAA Division III national level.

I'm not much of a sports watcher. I do enjoy watching baseball, but hardly ever watch any sport, including baseball on TV. I don't follow professional teams in any sport. As a kid, I followed the Chicago Cubs (baseball). I enjoy the idea of being a Blue Jays fan now that I'm in Toronto and have gone to some games with some teammates, but I don't watch the games on TV or follow the team.
    ****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

    Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

    Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

    IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
    BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
    1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

    FET #1 December 2014

  • Successfully had a hard conversation with our buddies where we all agreed in our own way to change our plans of going to Roatan in September (at least for now).   EV and I will likely stay in CA and try to find her a job and us a home (yikes - but that's more like a Monday problem...) and go back to Roatan over the holidays instead.  Financially I think we're making the right decision, we've maxed ourselves out on our home there, and yes there are always more upgrades, etc. but I think we're in a good stopping place for now. We've create two really nice flats that will hopefully be rented soon. Our friends decided not to go to Roatan with just me and instead to travel locally and internationally while TTC over the next few months.  Of course there are more layers to the story - but this is a good overview.  It's really rewarding to be able to practice a certain amount of intimacy with friends, when it comes to problem solving together.

So now our little family of 3.5 is pretty much homeless, yes we own 2 homes, but we live in neither so... GULP!!  My success also includes not freaking out (yet) about the above mentioned quandary...

QOTD: Sports??? LOL - nope don't watch or play. I love informal sports, or learning new things, Ioved golf for a minute, used to take tennis lessons and really like tennis, and I was on various swim teams as a kid and young person.  But I don't play any sports currently and the last team I belonged on was EV's work softball league and I was THE WORST player. Sigh... It was pretty hopeless.
    ;))
  • My big success this weekend: seeing one of my dearest friends and having dinner with him.  I don't get to talk to him nearly as often as I'd like, and I only see him once in a great while since he lives in San Fran and I live in Indiana.  He hates Indiana, and I can't afford to fly out west often so we're often left with an abyss between us.  But when we see each other it's like nothing's changed.  I just wish he was happier.  He seemed sad to me, lonely... I wanetd to fix it for him but I know there's not really anything I can do except offer to let him know I'm here for him.

QOTD: DP and I are bad lesbians.  We HATE sports.  I really wish I liked them, too, so I could join in everyone's excitement for football.  But honestly, I view them as nothing more than a nuissance that gets in the way of my reality TV shows.  I throw a fit when some stupid game interferes with my Sunday night shows and I miss recording them because the game went into over time.  Grrrrrrr!  When Indy hosted the Super Bowl, DP and I made an appearance, had a beer at a brew pub just to say we went, and then left as quickly as we arrived.  Not our thing, despite everyone's best efforts to try to encourage more enthusiasm from us.
