Do we have any stylish mamas here?

So yesterday I was feeling really sad and for some reason ended up at a hair salon and let them cut ALL of my hair off.

I have layers, I think. I have bangs! It's super cute, but over the years I turned into a ponytail only girl. I
have wore a pony tail everyday for the past 12 years. I have't had bangs in 12 years and I have never had more than one layer.

I feel like the cut added 20lbs to my cheeks though and I have this one twig from my bangs that keeps touching my eye lashes. What can I do? Would a cute tiny clip help? Wax? I'm so lost.

Added pics.

  • So funny. I cut bangs a few weeks ago... It's been years since I had them. My hair guy said it takes several weeks to " train " the hair into position especially if you have a cowlick. I think my funky bits are better... But I still look like a stupid chicken every now and then.

  • The cut us cute! I would just try to "train" the hair with a blow dryer and medium round brush every morning before it starts to dry naturally. A little flexible hold mouse before you dry might help too. I like Redkin aerate. Also, I sometimes blow dry my bangs the wrong way, before finishing them the right way, and this works well. My hairdresser calls it "bang confusion" - haha.
  • Thanks.

Hi! I wouldnt call myself "stylish", but I'm a hair person, definitely.

    1. Any time you do something drastic to your hair, it'll take a bit to get used to. You will though, I promise. I just drastically changed my color and it took nearly a week to look at myself in the mirror and not expect red.
    2. Layers are great! They add volume and fun and movement to a cut!
    3. They probably don't make your face look wider- BUT good layers can enhance your cheekbones, so I understand feeling weird about it. Trust me.. You'll get used to it. :)
    4. Bangs are tough. Either you love them, or you hate them. Are they side swept or straight across your forehead? They might take some training to lay correctly- your hair is used to going one way, and you want it to go another. If one part is bothering you, go back to the salon and have them fix it. They could have missed a piece, or just misjudged it. I'd give it a few more days to see if it just needs training- if its always in yor face, try using a bobby pin when you're at home to make it lay to the side. You can also use some product- I'm not a fan of wax(just a personal opinion) but I think a little hairspray can help it do what you want.
    5. If you're not happy with anything- go back to the stylist. They want you to be happy and come back to them. They'll charge you a little to work on you again, but if it gives you something you'll love, t's worth it.
    6. Welcome to the no ponytail world. I find headbands are helpful for going to the gym and lazy days around the house.

I want to see it now!!

ETA: oh so cute!!! A pin while at home for a couple days, or some product will help with that one piece. But you look good with short hair!!!

  • You wear that cut really well.... Hmmm maybe I need to cut my hair... Love to be able to turn my head from side to side and your hair goes swoosh swoosh... I know that sounds stilly/stupid but you know what I mean.

I LOVE that about my short hair.
I also look for twirl in dresses. Apparently movement is a big deal for me haha

  • @ziggy903 my bangs are side laying. I felt across the front would be too 90's..

I may be wrong, I don't get out much. I really don't like wax either, because I brush my hair a lot and end up getting it near my scalp, but I have half my hair tucks at the ends and the other half flips. It sucks!!

I will try some hair spray and a bobby pin.

  • To fix the tucks and flips- get a small round brush. When you Blow dry your hair, make it flip in or out, whatever you want. It'll do what you tell it to, it just takes a little practice.
But I promise, you look fantastic!

  • I have no advice (I just straighten the ish out of my side swept bangs to get them to go where I want), but wanted to say you look super cute, great cut!

  • I love this cut.  There are several easy styles you can do to keep your bangs out of your eyes.  Here are some ideas:

  • a flat iron will really help that, too! straighten it off to the side and it'll stay there

  • First of all your cut is great and you look super fierce and sassy! Last year I hacked my hair off and had a panic attack about three minutes later! For a super quick way to add some movement and body grab a texturizing hairspray. One that is light I use Bumble and Bumble medium spray but it's pricy ( my GF is a hair stylist so I'm lucky with a discount) spray your head then brush it out with a flat paddle brush. Take a medium barrel curling iorn not a small (no Shirey Temple curles) then curl big loose curls away from your face. Spray it again and as your day goes on they will loosen and fall. Sometimes I just bobby pin my bangs back just a bit to keep them out of my face. Good luck and trust me it just takes a bit to get used to!
  • I love the cut! PP have pretty much covered the tips.

I dug through my cabinet. I have a few "hairsprays" help me pick the one that will suit this best.
    • John Frieds Frizz-Ease Clearly Defying styling gel
    • John Frieda Luxurious volume hair spray extra hold.
    • Sebastian Volupt spray hair spray-gel volume building
    • Sebastian Shaper hot iron work hot tool protecting hair spray
    • Got 2b glued blasting freeze spray screaming hold for hair.
I am still looking for my straight iron..

  • I chopped my hair off this am, same hair cut!! :-)
  • cute cut :) i like the idea that @ZAngel gave about braiding the front back. im a hairdresser in the Beverly Hills area (As stylish of a mama as you can get lmao) and in my professional opinion, you just need more volume in the crown! pumping up that flatness at the top will help balance the weight of the shape a little better, thus evening out your face and helping resolve the illusion of extra weight in your cheeks :)

theres tons of ways to add volume...from the more time consuming (volumizing mousse & root booster cocktailed then lifted and dried with a round brush) to the quicker and easier (translucent voulmizing powder -my fave is "Big Hair Dont Care Volume Boosting Powder" By Milani Hair) a little goes a very long way!

give that a try and i bet you'll fall in love with everything about your new do :)

ps- dont even THINK about touching wax...all thats gonna do is flatten and stiffen your look and make the bad attributes worse!

    hope this helps!
