Pregnant after a Loss

Talk to me about baby movements

Put my pgal brain at ease!

I started feeling baby boots move around 21w, now 23 (24 tomorrow!) and Ive felt him pretty consistently since then, more frequent and stronger lately but the last 2 days its been almost nothing, maybe a pop here and there but nothing I'm sure of.

I confess I resorted to the home Doppler and he's fine but can't stop worrying about decreased movement. We have an u/s on Tuesday so I hate to call before then and the office is closed anyway so not sure what they'd do.

Is it still too early to feel movement consistently? Did he just get himself in a position where I can't feel him?

Ugh I hate pgal brain.

Re: Talk to me about baby movements

  • I think movement can still be pretty inconsistent. Baby easily could have changed positions and maybe kicks are going towards your back vs. out towards your belly.

  • I would have a few days of strong movement at tht point an then nothing or a day or two. Then it would be back. They are still so little an get tired. I think he would take a few days to recover from a few days of exercise. If you are worried you can call but it was exactly the same with me. Deep breaths!!

  • He's still got a good amount of space in there right now, so try to remember that he could have just moved to a place where you aren't able to feel the movements as much as before.  Also LO may just be chilling out a little bit and possibly doing more movement while you're asleep.

  • Agreeing with PP's.  I would have about one or two days a week where I just wouldn't feel anything remarkable.  Now as baby has gotten bigger I think it is very likely that she turns.  I can't feel her kicking my back but I can feel a pressure when she pushes against me.  It can be very unnerving for your pgal brain.

This happens to me too. I'll have days of really consistent movement and then a day of almost nothing. It freaks me out but I always hear his heart beating away and hear him kicking in there on the Doppler. Like ppl said, he still has a lot of room in there so he's probably moving even though you don't always feel it.

  • He's still pretty small, and has a lot of room in there. My OB isn't too concerned with movement until 26 weeks for that exact reason. I know I was freaked out a lot around that time period, he would move around a lot some days and the there would be days where I wouldn't really feel much. I totally understand the worry, crap, I'm due in 17 days and I still freak out about once a day, lol.

  • I'm as far along as you and baby girls movement is very inconsistent. I usually feel the most movement when I am at rest, so evenings and at night. Yesterday I was worried I hadn't felt anything all day then I sat down before dinner and put my feet up and she started moving.

I have an appointment on Wednesday, I was going to ask then too. But I am thinking that this is normal. GL at your ultrasound.

  • The same thing happened to me but I don't have a home Doppler. I called my doc's office and the nurse said this is normal to not feel him sometimes until 28-30 weeks. I try to relax but it's hard!
  • I had the exact same thoughts around weeks 24-25. I had been feeling him, then his movements got softer and less frequent. It wasn't until around week 28 that I started feeling strong, consistent movement. That said, I did go to L&D last week for monitoring because I hadn't felt LO in awhile. He's doing great, just squirming and changing positions a lot. Trust your gut, but this sounds very similar to my experience.

  • FWIW, here I am in the middle week 26, and I still wouldn't say he is CONSISTENT.  I have bouts of time, maybe 20 minutes of so, where there will be tons of movement.  But I can just as easily go 1-4 hours without feeling much.  I am constantly reminding myself not to be concerned until 28+ weeks, but it isn't easy.  I also notice he moves more when I'm reclined on the couch with my feet up, and/or if my bladder is full.

    ((HUGS))

Oh, btw, I still bust out my doppler on his quiet days, too.  No shame :)

  • I am going through the same thing!  2-3 days of constant movement and then 2-3 days of barely a pop and a wiggle....it is so hard not to freak out. PgAL brain sucks :(
