Pertussis?!?

LO started being a bit congested last week.  I chalked it up to being in daycare/the germ factory.  The latter half of this week, the congestion got worse, and LO wasn't sleeping well.  On Friday-ish, he developed a cough to go with his congestion, and today developed a fever of 100.8.  Since he's a couple days short of being 3 months old, we took him to the ER.  After a relatively short visit (only 2 hours!), they're treating all of us for Pertussis, despite all of us being nicely vaccinated.  They're testing a nasal swab from LO to see if it truly is Pertussis, but going ahead and treating while waiting for results.  Z-packs all around!

Lame sauce.  I thought since LO was vaccinated and we were boostered-up, we'd be in the clear, but no such luck.  So I guess this is a bit of an AW post, but also a bit of a warning that it can potentially happen even if you're all vaccinated!

LO still has a fever that's gone up since we've left the ER, but he's still eating well and sleeping okay, so hopefully we'll make it through the long weekend without another ER visit.

    That sucks! Sadly the little ones aren't fully protected until they've had all of their dtap shots. I don't think that's until 9 months- I can't remember when my son had his last dose. Maybe he doesn't have it. I remember them swabbing ds1 when he was about 7 months for it as he had the symptoms but it came back negative. Get well soon!

    Yeah, they're not - I just can't imagine who he would have got it from!

    It's looking more and more like it isn't Pertussis though - his fever's gone as of this morning, and he seems in much better spirits (yay!).
