Bowling??

edited August 2013 in Pregnant after a Loss
My strange dh has randomly and out of the blue decided it would be fun to set up a coworker with the friend that introduced us. He even took it as far as setting up a double date tonight. He decided on dinner and bowling! I reminded him that I'm pregnant (19w Monday) and well, he forgot to think about that! Anywho, I don't want to ruin the fun so we are all going but I'm not sure if I can actually play. Anyone go bowling while pregnant? Or been told this is a stupid idea. It sounds stupid to me but then again I'm scared of everything while pregnant.

I've gone while pregnant. It's fine unless you have severe weight lifting restrictions. Just use like an 8lb ball

I was just going to add that even when not pregnant, I use a kid's ball. So I definitely won't use one more than 10lbs anyways. Glad to hear someone else has done this!

I've bowled a few times, and I think we're going again tomorrow. Be careful about the weight of the ball and maybe even have your husband bend down to pick it up off the ball return and then hand it to you. And don't bend over too far on your release:-). You should be fine.

Thinking I should roll between my legs. I was also really thinking of getting the kid stand some places have that teach the kids how to throw. It looks like a ramp and they drop the ball from that. I do not want to hurt myself! We always drink while bowling so I think this will be the first time I've played sober since my 10th bday party!!

Just be conscious of your body and of the weight of the bowling ball.  Have fun and try to enjoy your double date :)

Thanks! It will be a fun night!

I league bowl and actually talked to my doctor about it. I was obviously not allowed to lift post transfer but in the first and second trimester- it's fine. I was told that I should be more careful as i got later in pregnancy because your center of balance has changed. Bowling alleys and shoes can be very slick too. It's easier to fall when your balance is funky and you can exacerbate that with an eight pound bowling ball in your hand.
It's not so much the weight of the ball, it's the sense of balance and increased falling risk that is at issue. However my OB said as long as I took it careful that it was fine as long as I was comfortable doing it.

Thanks for sharing. My balance has been good so far but I am a little nervous of the slippery floors so I might keep my sneakers on. I also use drink and bowl so I hope being sober keeps me on my feet a little better.
