It's almost 3am and I'm up thinking over the appointment I had today. I'm supposed see the regular obgyn for the normal check ups and the delivery and then see the specialist once a month to monitor my meds and specifically monitor my diabetes and blood pressure.
I went in and they made it known how busy and important they were. Got it. I got an u/s and a quick chit chat with a doctor who seemed half out the door the minute he got in there. No one checked my vitals, there didnt seem to be a nurse around or even a medical assistant and even after I asked both the front desk staff and the doctor, no one checked to see of they got the fax of bloodwork results from the obgyn. How the heck are they monitoring anything? I will certainly tell the obgyn that she will need to monitor my meds and health issues since they're not.
The docs there are very good and experienced with the invasive testing and that's no joke if its not done right so I'll go to them for that and the major scans but I'm just upset that I would pay all this money to see this specialized genius who really didnt have time to care if the health of my future baby and myself are in check. I mean, does this sound odd to you? What have your experiences been like if you see a maternal fetal specialist?
Re: Confused re: perinatolgist appointment
Hope it gets better for you!
I spent lots of time in my perinatologist's office (which was very busy as well) and my experience was very different. After waiting my turn, a nurse would take me back, take my blood pressure, and, for later visits, do a NST. Then I'd be taken to an u/s room where a tech would do an initial u/s. Most of the techs were super nice and would explain everything they were looking at. Then the actual peri would come in and do his own scan, again going back over what he was seeing and what we were monitoring. Then we'd discuss what we saw and if I had any instructions until the next appt.
I would speak to your OB about how you were treated and see if she has any suggestions or another referral.
How often do y'all actually see the specialist?
I have decided to go back for the pre-natal test because this particular practice is very experienced in it. After that appointment I'll ask to be referred out to someone else for the other stuff.
