Restless legs?

For the past few nights I've had awful restless legs--something I've never experienced before. Today my arms and legs have both been doing it all day. I just have to move them. It's driving me nuts! Anyone else experience something like this? It didn't happen with DD.

I usually have some sort if mild restless leg syndrome but it has seemed worse the last couple weeks. I thought maybe it was because I've been less active?
I did a quick google and it turns out it's not uncommon rls to come along with pregnancy. https://www.babycenter.com/0_sleep-problems-restless-legs-syndrome-during-pregnancy_7549.bc

If I'm desperate I find a couple Tylenol help a bit. Not sure if its just mental or what but I can usually fall asleep after that. GL

  • Yes, except I have always had this with my legs. Now that I have been so exhausted it bothers me a ton. I tell myself to stop moving my legs only to find myself doing it again a few minutes later.

  • YES!!! Me too!

It's been SO strange all of the sudden I haven't been sleeping as well and my legs just want to kick and I can't get comfortable around 3 am.

I thought it was just me!

  • Oh man I got it bad! And out of nowhere too!! My husband and I are seriously considering twin beds :)
  • I had restless legs so bad with my son. Get some peppermint oil and mix it with lavender lotion. Put it on your lower legs before bed. Be generous with the peppermint oil.

Thanks for the tip! I've been stretching and massaging them before bed and it's helping some, but I'll try the peppermint oil.

  • I've had RLS always - it sucks.

My first thought for you is that it is thought to be associated with iron deficiency anemia - have they looked at your iron level since you've been pregnant?  You may want to ask them to if not.

Second - massage, stretching, soaking in the bath all can help some once it starts.  Orgasm almost always helps (woo!) - but if you're on pelvic rest for any reason you shouldn't try that fix.  Light exercise during the day can help to prevent it.  Some people have success taking a magnesium supplement - that hasn't helped personally but many sufferers claim it works.
