C-sections

Double suture layering

What is this double stitching business? Is it not standard?

I'm trying to include some detailed requests in my birth plan in case I have to have an emergency c-section... But not sure what this double stitching is about. Any and all info appreciated! TIA!

Re: Double suture layering

  • umm, your Dr is going to do what he/she is most familiar and comfortable. detailed birth plans are hard to follow to be honest. on put the major/most important requests. during labor, your nurse, tech and Dr do not have time to stop and review eveything. and during a STAT C/S your birth plan is not in ANY bodies mind, including yours. the safety of mom and baby are.
in total agreement, but where i can have a say i'd like to, if possible. it's not an extensive list, but details such as having one arm free (rather than both arms strapped), screen lowered so i can see the birth of my baby, and the thing about this double-suture. i wanted to ask at my most recent prenatal appt, but it was with a midwife and not an ob/gyn so i had to hold off on that. just wanted to see if anyone here might know specifics about the types of sutures they use, especially to make future VBACs possible.
