Babywearing twins--should I get a sling?

I didn't wear my first son too much because he was born in the spring and that summer was so, so hot. But I'm thinking that with two babies and a toddler, I'll HAVE to do some babywearing at some point! I've seen a lot of parents use different combinations of carriers and wraps, and I am wondering if any of you MoMs would recommend getting a sling? Or is it not very practical with twins in terms of combining it with other carriers?

The reason I ask is that sevenslings.com is giving away free slings for world breastfeeding month (code WTE if anyone is interested!). Well, almost free--it's about $12 for s&h and because we are buying a house this month funds are REALLY tight right for us for a few weeks. I want to take advantage of this since carriers and wraps can be so expensive, but I really can't afford to waste money right now!

What do you think?

Re: Babywearing twins--should I get a sling?

  • I would look for a used one locally or make one out of fleece. I wore my homemade sling more than my Moby because it just took so long to put on relatively.

  • And there seem to be these "free" slings all the time so I don't think it is a crazy steal in any case.

  • The seven slings ones suck.  They are a pouch which is not the easiest to wear anyway.  Your best bet is a moby or other stretchy wrap for when they are tiny and you can wear them together and then after that two structured carriers like Ergo/Becos one for the front and one for the back.  You could also do a ring sling and structured carrier or if you are really good wrapper a woven wrap with both babies.

  • Yes, like pp's said, sevenslings does those sales all the time. I got one and hated it. Couldn't even figure it out if I recall and it ran SUPER small anyway. I used the moby but not for long- I found it very cumbersome and hot! I've never tried wearing 2 at once though so can't help there...sorry.

  • I had a moby w my first and wasn't a fan. I got a k'tan this time and it is SO much easier to put on.

And w twins and a toddler, we babywear a lot. Usually I'll take the smaller one in the k'tan and DH will take the bigger one in a moby (with frogged legs sitting on a receiving blanket) and we'll be able to do things in the evenings.

I'm on mat leave and will often wear one during the day while the other is asleep if I need to eat, etc.

  • Love a good babywearing post. Mine are still little, so they're fitting together in a moby. I know the instructions say not to, but I tried it with a spotter and it seemed ok so we do it. I would love to see what people with larger babies do, so thanks @jodiariel! I think I need a beco or an ergo. Sorry the pic is sideways. Stupid mobile.

  • I couldn't live without my carriers! I have a few because I've developed a bit of a love affair with Babywearing. I've never used a Moby, but I did love both our K'Tan and MayaWrap ring sling from day one. My latest loves are my (2) woven wraps. DH and I Babywear whenever we go out together and leave the stroller and huge diaper bag behind. It's us, babies on us and a small backpack. We have an Ergo but our babes aren't big enough to really like/prefer them yet.

  • I'm so glad to read these posts about baby wearing! DS slept so well in the bjorn and he loved it, so I was planning on using it again. I am planning on getti one for DH too so we don't always have t leave the babies laying down or in the stroller everywhere.
  • I registered for a Twin Weego. I was interested in the slings, but read the consumer reports warnings against them - too many injuries and I am the WORST CLUMSIEST person I know, so I decided to avoid them - personal choice though because of my clumsiness. Frankly if the Weego is all we get, I will be happy.
