I suck: diaper rash

For the first time, LO has diaper rash. He is 15.5 weeks. The only change I made was I tried the baby dry diapers. I think there must be a chemical in it that bothered him because I still changed him the same amt. I feel so bad for trying something new. His skin is so raw right now.

  • Naked time helps. Don't beat yourself up... Some LOs just have sensitive skin.

  • It's gonna happen my DD1 got yeast infections and horrible diaper rashes when she started eating solids. We figured out pretty fast that she could not handle anything acidic ( oranges, pineapples, even some juices ) it pissed me off pretty bad when we figured this out and told daycare and until we got a drs note sent over they fed her pineapple and she would be hurting!
I like the Desitin Max strength . Never let me down! ( purple box )

  • Baby dry made gave Ds1 a horrible rash too! But it was actually eczema in his case. Luvs actually worked better for him (and had the bonus of being cheaper!)

  • Don't feel bad! Use Triple Paste, the best!

  • You don't suck.  We are going to be spending a lot of the long weekend naked to try to clear a rash here.  Poor Nugget had diarrhea and we changed and wiped her so much last week, she got a horrible rash.

  • It's totally your fault.  How dare you try something new?   Your LO is probably carving "I hate Mommy" into his crib.

(Sorry-- I'm feeling really sassy today.)

One day you will need to try something new and it will work out brilliantly and you'll be a hero for it.  So chin up!  We've all been there!

we all need a sassy day now and then!

  • Thanks guys! We will try some naked time and see if it help! So far we used A&D and butt paste. It hasn't worked yet but we will keep trying. I'm also picking up some sensitive skin diapers until it clears.

  • Aw you don't suck! It happens sometimes. My mom gave me zinc oxide when Autumn had her diaper rash(es). We figured out she can only use cloth diapers. Hope your LOs clears up quickly!
  • There was some controversy and drama when pampers re-designed the Baby Dry diapers, a lot of complaining about nasty diaper rashes and bad reactions to whatever was changed. Just something to consider. Don't beat yourself up, it happens to most babies at some point or another!

  • We've ha it twice now, once from detergent on cloth, once from using aquaphor per the Pedro's instructions. I found that coconut oil clears it up super fast!

    You don't suck. :)

What detergent was it? I used Charlie's Soap at first and DH got a bit of a red bum. I stopped right away after reading some babies got an awful rash from it. I was using my "not diaper safe" All Free and Clear for a wile til I just got Planet.

I'm kinda obsessed with Coconut Oil. I use it on my hair, face and lotion supplement when my skin is really dry or after the beach. Probably will work great on diaper rash too! If not, I hate to sound like a broken record but Triple Paste is one of the best creams out there. It's expensive but totally worth it.

  • We also use coconut oil. It has worked great so far. Last night lo's inner leg roll area was looking real read and I slathered him up and gave him plenty of nakie time and it is cleared up today. We also used it when he had dry scalp.

When you do naked time do you put something over his penis? I'm figuring what is the best place to do naked time... He poops and pees a lot.

Ill definitely get some of the triple paste. I really couldn't care less about the price if it helps.

I try to always do it right after a poop and a pee. That way I know I have at least 10 good minutes of no accidents. I actually lay an older blanket on his piano mat and let him play or do tummy time (less mess if there's an accident) Haha.
  • Geeez autocorrect! My response was awful. Lol.
    Pedro, ha. :-P
@NJAZgirl, I was using country save powder. But I think the issue was our front loader being too 'efficient' and not rinsing them well enough. We switched to all free & clear, but the military version with no optical brighteners, but I haven't gone back to cloth yet. I plan to when we get back from our trip to MD in a few weeks. We have a top loader now, so fingers crossed!
  • Ill also add after you wipe the bottom, dry it with a cloth before you put the cream on. The rash loves the wet, and I found it cleared up faster if her bottom was 100% dry before applying the cream.
