Independence

My son is almost 15 months old and will not really play independently.  I have tried all different kinds of toys and activities but always wants me there right in the action.  I know at this time I can only expect 15 mins of independent time but I really cant even get 5 mins.  I know that independent play is important.  Has anyone struggled with this and if so, how did you overcome it?  Thanks in advance!!

DD didn't really start doing well with playing independently until recently and she's 18 months.  I don't know if your LO is in daycare, but mine is and I think that she just really didn't want to be away from us anymore than that.  Now though she will run around the house pushing her shopping cart and play with her zoo for around 10 minutes, as long as she can see me and I pay attention to her when she looks at me.  However, at daycare, she does really well with independent play and it's not really an issue there.
