March 2014 Moms

Hi! And u/s question

Hi ladies,
I've been lurking and loving for awhile now but haven't said hi, so here I am:)

I'm an FTM due March 13th and if that wasn't enough excitement in our family, I learned that my sis-in-law is pregnant - and get this - due one month after me, after being married to my bro for 11 years AND just adopting a baby girl in March! We legit couldn't do this if we tried. So our immediate family is expanding real soon!

So tomorrow I'm going for my first ultrasound (woot woot) and wasn't told to have a full bladder but a friend mentioned it...if I wasn't told then can I assume no and pee? Don't tell this preggo not to pee!

Thanks ladies. Love reading your stories.

Re: Hi! And u/s question

  • I have to give a urine sample every time I go, so I wait until I get there. That would be the only reason to go with a full bladder.

  • I think it depends on what type of ultrasound they're doing (transvag vs. abdominal). I needed to have a full bladder today for an abdominal one. Try not to use the bathroom too close to your appointment and you'll be fine. They will tell you if it needs to be emptied :).

  • Thank you!
  • Similar situation!! My brother in law's wife is due a month before me, and my sister in law is due exactly 4 weeks after, so mother in law gets three grand babies in three months!!! Numbers 8, 9 and 10 for her!

  • You are right on that line where they may want you to have a full bladder but may be just far along you won't need it. I would bring a bottle of water just in case.

  • I needed a full bladder for my NT scan yesterday (abdominal ultrasound).  The office hadn't told me, but luckily I saw it on their website so knew.  You can always urinate before the ultrasound if they don't need the full bladder.

  • Call the lab and ask. Usually says the instructions on the requisition but I agree you're better to go full. It's easier to empty a full bladder than it is to fill an empty one. :)
