NTTCALR: Positive thoughts for my dad pls?

I could use any positive thoughts (and prayers if you pray) for my dad today.

He was admitted to the hospital last night, and then quickly sent to the ICU. He has been sick for a few years with bladder cancer, diabetes, and now some sort of degenerative neurological autoimmune disease that has drastically impacted his personality, mood and cognitive skills. Late last night, they told us his kidneys have failed and he's now on a dialysis machine.

My poor mom had been trying to take care of him at home like this for days because he refused to go in, even though he could no longer walk and was unable to even go to the bathroom. They never told me it had gotten so bad. I live 2 hours away. Finally, when my mom reached out for help yesterday, his doctor came to their house and said "Go to the hospital now or you WILL die here on the floor." So he went. I'm worried for my dad of course, but our relationship is complicated. Mostly, I wish peace, comfort, and emotional healing for my mom. She's been through a lifetime of pain with him.

I'm still waiting for an update this morning. I hope to hear from my mom soon. Any good thoughts you can send this way are appreciated.

Thank for your supportive responses. It means a lot.

I'm relieved to say that it sounds like he has improved a little this morning. They're still not sure what the prognosis is yet, but he's resting comfortably. And the doctor and social workers agree that my mom can't keep caring for him, which is a good development. If he recovers enough to be discharged, it will be to a nursing facility of some type. The situation still isn't great, but right now I'm happy for both of them that there's some kind of plan in place.

@HeyMrsPotter I am so sorry! I am praying that your dad can stabilize soon and transfer to a facility that can best accommodate his health needs. It will not only help him, but your mom as well. Caregivers so often neglect themselves to focus on their loved ones. I hope she finds comfort knowing that she will have help in caring for him. Keeping you and your family in my t&p! ((HUGS))
