Toddler Bed

When do you plan on or when did you switch LO from crib to toddler bed? I ask because DD and I just got back from visiting my parents where she had her own big bed and did great in it. Sometimes it's tough putting LO to sleep in her crib because I have to bend over so far to put her down gently and I think she thinks shes falling and wakes up. 
The only thing that makes me nervous about transitioning her is she sometimes has to CIO at night. Not all the time, but sometimes she does and in that case I would like to know she is safe in a crib. What are your plans?

    My almost three year old is in his crib still and don't plan on moving him soon so there's no way I'm moving lo soon! Not until they are old enough to know they need to stay in bed when put there. I moved my oldest around 3 1/2 or 4

    I moved DS1 at 2.5 because DS2 was coming and we needed the crib. DS2 will be in the crib for awhile.

    This is my plan. My mom transitioned my sister and I when she caught us hanging out of the crib in attempt to climb out.

    This was me with my DD.  I think she was 3ish when I did the transition.  I felt very uneasy about having her 'loose' in her bedroom.  Even after I made the transition I put a baby gate in her doorway so she couldn't wander out.  I would wait as long as possible.  Once you make the transition it would be hard to go back so make sure you are really ready.

    I moved DD to a toddler bed just after her first birthday. We don't do CIO and I nurse her to sleep so it was easier to make the switch because she would wake up when I tried to out her in the crib already asleep. This week was the first time she got out of her bed on her own and we have a gate at the top of the stairs. DH is upstairs in the computer room 99% of the time anyway so even if she got out of her room she would just crawl to him. It's worked well for us so far but like I said we don't do CIO at all so I'm not sure how that would work...
