Thoughts on Atypical Behavior

edited August 2013 in Special Needs
Thanks for all of your helpful feedback!! I decided to delete this post, because my screen name is my real name and I don't need this info about DS and family floating around the Internet for all eternity. But again, thanks so much for all of the help!! :-)

No. If they had that kind if control over their behavior they would have never started it in the first place. I think I am pissed off for your situation. If the school is trying to sell you this theory, kindly ask them to point out the other children who have acted in this way. I guess they were 'cured' by a lack of attention????

The guideline we were told to use by our ABA provider is to ask whether or not the behavior would continue uninterrupted for twenty minutes if alone in the room. If yes, it's sensory and harder to address. Otherwise? It's attention seeking and should be dealt with as such.
