Paci recommendations?

DS never took a pacifier so this is all new to me. DD loves the paci but can't keep it in her mouth and it has turned into an all night struggle. It's almost 5am and I haven't slept at all yet. Did anyone have problems with LO being able to keep a paci in their mouth and was able to fix it by switching to a different kind?

Re: Paci recommendations?

  • We use NUK brand.  At first she had a hard time keeping it in her mouth, but she got better at it. Now she only really loses it when she is finished and spits it out.

  • I'd buy a few and try until you find one she likes. Also, we had a lot of success with DD1 using the Wubbanubs. They are adorable and you can kind of prop them up. The little animal provides some weight to help it stay put!

  • My LO liked the green rubber one they gave in the hospital, but it wouldn't stay in. We switched to one that had a shorter, fatter nipple. Almost shaped like a balloon that you blew up just a little. Those seem to stay in better.
  • We use the avent soothies, which are the hospital ones.

My oldest never took one and I never pushed it. One of the twins is like him - just not a comfort sucker. The other is a big fan of the paci.

  • We use vanilla Soothies like they use at the hospital. Gumdrops are similar but are smaller and a bit wider, so they may be easier to keep in

"If you're still my small babe
or you're all the way grown,
    my promise to you
    is you're never alone.
You are my angel, my darling,
my star...and my love will find you,
    wherever you are."
  • We use the soothie they gave us at the hospital. She does spit it out a lot, but typically it's because she's done with it. Other times it's because she has the hiccups and it shoots out (hilarious, btw), so we pull her swaddle up a bit to block the paci from flying out.

ETA: We don't pull the blanket up to block her mouth, just barely enough so she can get the paci out if she wants, but it'll stay by her face in case she wants it back.

  • Lo likes to take hers out of her mouth and just hold it. I'm like wtf you're too young to hold your paci!! She likes the soothies from the hospital the best!

LO uses the soothie from the hospital as well and typically spits it when he's done or like @ELauren88 said it will shoot out of his mouth when he has hiccups. He typically holds his hands over the paci to keep it in, though, he's special like that.
LO used to hold hers in with her hand! I don't know why she stopped. :( Probably because she learned that we would put it back for her..haha!

  • We use the soothies! It was the first one LO ever had. The hospital didnt give them out but we had one. Any other paci we have tried, he barely sucks it and spits it out. I want to try the vanilla ones. I have never seen those!
  • LO doesn't like the pacifier. She opens her mouth and lets it fall out. My mom said neither my sisters nor I ever took a paci so oh well.
  • We did the soothes at first because the hospital gave it to him, but then we tried a nuk and it is so much easier for him to keep in his mouth.
  • I'm not sure if changing the pacifier brand would help LO. When she's hungry, she gets angry when you try and soothe her with a pacifier. She'd rather have the real deal.

  • I tried the vanilla soothie today. No luck. Dd will tolerate the MAM on occasion, but I think she's just not a huge paci fan.

  • Hey! We use the green one from the hospital. But, today I bought some Tommie Tippee (sp???) bc those are the bottles we use to supplement. Ill let you know if he keeps them in better.

  • Our LO loves the wubbanub. It's the smoothie paci with a stuffed animal attached to it.
  • I always recommend NUK but mam is my second choice...NUK stays in the mouth the best esp when they are this age
