first noticeable bump, first time around

I don't recall if someone posted about this before, but I have a question for those who have already had one (or other first-timers if they've already noticed).

I've read that after you've had at least one, that you start showing a little earlier.  for the first time, I've read that it's usually in the beginning of the second trimester.  last night, I tried on some clothes before packing for vacation and realized my jeans didn't fit.  I was upset and talked to my husband.  he said that just the night before (7 weeks) he had just noticed the first smidgen of a slight roundness in the front on the lower side.  i'm not exactly underweight, and he has seen me at a lot heavier then I am now.  he's also amazingly aware and notices everything.  he also noticed that the normal "fat" area now has a slightly harder bump underneath.  he also said that if anyone other than him saw me, they probably wouldn't notice anything.

is 7 weeks early to start noticing a little change?  when did any of you ladies out there who already have kids start noticing the beginnings of your bump?  for any other first timers, have you started to notice this yet?  i'm not worried, just highly curious.  this actually puts a smile on my face because I have had almost no symptoms other than a positive test, so it has been rather hard for me to believe this is all real, until now that I seem to finally have some physical proof.

i'm very open to thoughts and opinions...

  • I noticed at maybe 14-16w that I looked a little different, but was still wearing my normal pants (which were normally a little loose). I was able to totally hide the bump with strategic clothing until 6 mos when I wanted to. I started out at a healthy to slightly too-thin size. This time I'm 8.5w and can feel the firmness starting to come out of my pelvis, but probably still have a few weeks until I see it or really need different pants.

  • I didn't really have a noticeable little bump until closer to 19-20 weeks with my first. Before was mainly just bloat.

Good question!  I was wondering too.
Seems to be just bloat, then.

  • I'm starting to look pregnant but it's bloat. I'm thin otherwise so it's noticeable. You'll know it's baby bump when you lay on your back and your tummy is still sticking up. About 14 weeks with my first.

  • I've lost weight so far, a friend noticed today that my face looked thinner. I hardly eat because food sounds terrible 95% of the time, but my jeans are tight. My body is definitely going through some weight redistribution....

My SIL lost a ton of weight while pregnant (she wasn't actively trying- just ate right and stayed active) and I'm hoping I have the same luck. Now if only I could find the desire to eat something that wasn't a carb or to be remotely active these days... Maybe second tri...

  • It depends on your body type. I am a tiny person so you notice on me quickly. Last time I had to buy maternity pants at 7 weeks. I'm 7 weeks today and I've had to use the belly band all week.
  • I am 7 weeks and my pants are getting tight. I do think it is mostly bloat but it never goes away completely. A family friend even asked if I was pregnant, so it is not just my husband and I who are noticing. I haven't gained any weight and am pretty thin to start with. I think maybe the bloat is just so noticeable when normally there is a flat stomach.
  • 15w when it was an honest to God bump...not bloat, not just my stomach starting to round out because my uterus was growing...a real bump wasn't there until 15w

I'm already starting to look like I have a bump, but that's just because my stomach muscles aren't toned (from having DD) so I'll probably look like I'm showing around 12w or 13w this time, I bet.

  • I noticed my shape changing way before other people did. I don't think I was showing for other people until solidly in the second trimester.

  • Here was 16.5w for me. This is shortly after I considered actually having anything resembling a baby bump (starting 15w) and not a bloaty bump

  • My stomach was pretty toned and I'm still running, although not as much, and my pants range from very snug to just dont fit. I've gained 5 lbs, but 5lbs on my 5'2 frame is apparently enough... My pants were pretty fitted to begin with so I'm already looking into belly bands and maternity patns. I'm 9w3d

  • My first, it was at least 16 weeks I think, but the first start of a bump maybe 14 weeks just not noticeable to others. The second maybe 14 weeks, and this is my third and I can personally feel a low bump, as well as I have bloat, which are now running together over the last week. I'm willing it to slow down because I plan to keep this from family until 12 weeks, but being a third with some sad abs, we'll see what happens. I definitely have the bloat too, and I can tell the difference as one runs into the other now (which doesn't help the case of not looking 5 months pregnant either). Darn carbs!

  • My first around 14-16w. Now, I'm 6w4d and the bloat is more noticable but just that, bloat. Baby is too tiny now even if you were having trips it's too early for a "real baby bump"

  • I think I started showing around 15 weeks with my first, but I was bloated way way before that

I'm bloated now but sometimes I can feel a bit of hardness when I press through the bloat, but that could just be my bladder which seems to be constantly full.

  • This is me at about 13 weeks maybe a couple days more.... With my first.

I'm 6 weeks 5 days now. Interested to see how soon I pop this time! :)
  • With my first, I think I busted out the first pair of maternity pants around 19-20 weeks but didn't have anything that resembled a bump until closer to 22 weeks. I'm not expecting anything for awhile this time.

  • I'm only 5w2d and a FTM so I know mine is all bloat. The weird part is that I've lost my ability to suck in! Was not expecting that.
  • I'm 5'1" and I got pregnant with my first at 113lbs. I had a full on baby bump, no bloat, solid bump at 12 weeks. My son was pretty big though, he ended up being 9lb3oz at birth so he wasn't your normal 6-8lb baby and I'm a very small person so I think it kind of depends on your body and how rapidly baby grows. Also, keep in mind that this isn't an exact science. Technically your uterus isn't supposed to have raised by 12 weeks, but once again your body is goin to do whatever it wants regardless of what you think it oughta do.
  • With my DS I didn't show until well into the 2nd trimester, maybe 22 weeks? Right now the baby is the size of a raspberry and your uterus hasn't grown hardly at all, that's why doctors don't start using fundal measurement to date a pregnancy until much later.
