Fur-babies

I have had my yorkie for two years longer than I've had my husband... He's my baby, my bubs, my little buddy. I'm hoping he doesn't feel neglected when we bring home LO. I can't imagine being one of those households that gets rid of their pets when a baby is born due to allergies or whatever. My bubs it top paw. Thoughts?

  • I've heard that pets are actually healthy for babies and that it helps build up their immune systems.
  • If neither you of DH have environmental allergies, it is unlikely that your child will. Not impossible though.
I guarantee though, you will feel very differently if you have to take your child on multiple trips to the ER, administer epi pens and see the baby covered in hives, struggling to breathe.

This is what I heard too. Household's with pets have children with less allergies.

I can respect that... Hope your LO is ok and hope we don't have to make that choice.
  • I have 3 cats and a hedgehog. My mom is concerned about the cats and the litter box but they will be sticking with us no matter what! Allergies arent a consern for me because there are none in our family. And if you keep a well groomed pet the less dander they will have causing less irritation. Luckily Yorkies require grooming every 6 to 8 weeks.

DD has had dogs around her since the day she was born. It's all about boundaries at first and making sure the dogs are used to her so they don't get territorial. Luckily, I never had problems with any of my dogs. We have two papillons at my parents house. XH and I had a presa canerio (huge dog). He was a bit scarier because he thought she was a toy, so we had to keep him away for the first few weeks until he realized she wasn't a toy. I had nightmares about him jumping into our room to eat her but I think that was because I was an overly paranoid FTM. I look at it now and it could've been worse because he really was and still is very gentle with her.
