  • Ok, so I can kind of understand why a kid might need a cell phone (I used to be anti-phones for kids), but for sports and stuff, I get it. But does an 8 year old really need an iphone? or tablet? Come on, I don't even have that stuff!

JT is pretty cute, though, so most of us just let it slide ;). As for food, I like ALL the food, especially Mexican!

  • I normally don't do this but its fresh in my mind from last night: I cringe when I see babies/toddlers at the grocery store at night and worst when they are cranky and crying.  I understand that there are single parents out there and you have to go to the store when you can but when I see both parents and its 9pm and a crying baby- of course that baby is crying- it should have been in bed hours ago!  I wouldn't want my husband to drag me to Walmart at 2 am in the midst of my sleep cycle!  Let your babies/toddlers go to bed and have your spouse stay home while you shop.  To add to that, I also don't like seeing toddlers/kids on ipads/tablets, etc. in the grocery store, restaurant, etc.- what ever happened to talking with your kids and passing the time that way.

I agree to an extent. I don't think breastfeeding is something anyone should remember when they get older. I recently heard about the sister of a friend who was still breastfeeding her six and seven year olds. Sorry, but that is just creepy. Toddlers are one thing, when the kid gets to a point that they will actually remember the experience when they get older, time to quit!
  • I think that, when a child can physically lift your shirt and pull down your bra you shouldn't be breastfeeding.  Just my opinion...

My husband just got back from California and said the Mexican food there makes our Mexican food taste like frozen and microwaved.

I can't stand little boys with long shaggy hair. Or babies without shoes. Or babies in just onesies in public. My friend always takes her baby out in just a onesie or just a shirt and a diaper.

Lol well then by these standards I better start weaning now. My LO is 8.5 months and she can easily pull up or down my shirt and pull at my bra.

I personally have never understood why people associate artificial milestones with a timeline for a child breastfeeding.

"Once the baby can say "boob" it's time to quit"
"Once the baby can remember they were nursed its time to quit"
"Once a baby can lift up your shirt it's time to quit"

Why? If the baby can say bottle should we stop feeding them too? Lol.

I'm not saying we should breast feed a 7 year old by any means but I don't get the timeline people put on breastfeeding.

My kid does that now, so I guess I should tell her no more milk from mama...

I don't really care how long anyone breastfeeds as long as they are following their child's lead. Seriously. No kid is gonna BF forever and it's loads healthier than cows milk.

I used to work at a restaurant and I saw both of these things constantly. People brought little babies and kids in all the time after normal bed time, and not like 8:30, I mean at 10:30 or 11. It was crazy! And same to the kids w/little devices. They'd sit and play on their phone/miniature gaming system until their food arrived and then eat, then go back to it. SOOO annoying!

kjsmith9  on the shoe thing. However, we did do socks last winter, but only for warmth, not style.

  • Add me to the shoeless child group. My sister is a manager of children's footlocker and we have tons of shoes for when she is walking but she never wears shoes now. I would love not to have to wear shoes and I just can't see the point to putting them on her right now.

I have lots of UO's that are way too political for this forum. But, besides those ill add that I really don't get why so many people liked the show Seinfeld or Friends. I do not find either show particularly entertaining.

I am guilty of pretty much all of that, except the hair thing because Killian doesn't have enough to even see let alone be shaggy but I never put pants on him because I think its silly to have another piece of clothing to remove from a wiggly little butter-ball when I have to change his diapers. As for socks and shoes... yea, good luck keeping either of those on his feet. Socks are for chewing, shoes are for chewing & throwing down the stairs and if you put him in footie-pjs prepare for a battle, he will scream until he can see his toes again.

  • My UO is that I am completely ok with my dog licking my baby's face. Would I prefer Killian not open his mouth and try to lick the dog back, sure, but it makes them both so darn happy I don't worry about it.

i work at a Walgreens and i hate seeing parents in there at 9:30 at night. the baby is crying and they are just letting them cry. i makes me mad. my UO is that if you choose to buy a piece of technology (phone, computer, ect.) actually try and learn how to use it. at work i have to explain basic function of computers and phones just so someone can send a picture. im not expecting everyone to know programming or how to fix hardware but please at least know what an app is what and SD card is and know that what you are getting stuck in my card reader is a SIM card not and SD.

and on the same note i don't like peoples kids talking there elderly parents into phones or cameras  that they don't know how to use and then not help they learn. i love my older customers but this is usually what happens.

I guess I was thinking of the 5 year old I saw, on the train, go up to his mother and pick up her shirt and pull down her bra and latch on.  If I had been able to BF Morgan I would still be doing it.  I have no problem whatsoever with that, I would have loved to do it for a year, but when people try to justify it at that age....it just seems wrong to me.  I'm not saying it's sexual or anything, please don't think that, I just don't see why a child that age needs BM.

I don't understand why people still fall into the "I don't vaccinate my kid because he could get Autism" thing. The big measles outbreak in Texas got me thinking about it. The church it came from told the people to pray instead of vaccinate because vaccinations are dangerous. Now the outbreak is tied to the church and they are telling everyone to get vaccinated.

Get the darn shot, then maybe pray away the pain. Your kid won't be Autistic from getting shots.
I knew of a lady once who didn't get her children vaccinated, because "shots are painful". My first thought was, "But isn't contracting a 100 year old disease MORE painful?"

I can't stand this either! DH keeps DD in a onesie only all the time, no matter where they're going - drives me nuts! And, the thought of just a shirt and a diaper, with the diaper not covered, gives me the heebie jeebies - ha!

Right? Its unreal all the diseases that are coming back because people refuse to vaccinate. Painful? Really? DD cries for like a minute and its over. Get over it.

I get what you're saying, but I think there are exceptions. My DD for example. Depending on her nap schedule, sometimes the child is awake until 10 or 10:30...she's not sleep deprived by any means, but sometimes she takes her last nap from like 7-8:30 and then she's wide awake for a few hours...if it's a Fri night and we pick her up from my Mom's after date night and she's wide awake, we may run grab a few things at the grocery store...but I would never keep her awake if she's tired just to run to the store.

I hate seeing little kids with technology as a babysitter too.I can't tell you how many times we've been out to eat and there's a kid at the table with a phone/tablet and the parents are completely ignoring the kid....our DD will not have that stuff b/c she will be taught that sitting down to eat together is a time that the family uses to connect with one another- we didn't have that stuff as kids and it wasn't an issue.

I definitely understand trying to blame someone or something if your child has autism. I really get it but I have to bite my tongue when I see the vaccine conspiracy posts.

  • Yeah I guess at a certain point, I would want to stop if I was, say, walking down the street and my boob was out before I knew what was going on. Doubt that happens much, but that would probably be when I start thinking, it's time.
