Still hates the car!

I know this was discussed before, I might have even been the one to post it, but my son who will be 3 months on the 31st still hates the car.  He screams the entire time.  I don't even want to go anywhere because he will just scream and scream.  We took a 2 1/2 hr car ride to visit my family last week and he basically cried the entire time.  Has anyone whose baby hated the car found anything that worked? we tried hanging a few things on his handle, he has a mirror (which I might try to take out to see if that is the problem) and opening the window will stop it for a few minutes. We are moving soon and I am dreading the longer commute to and from school!

Re: Still hates the car!

  • My DD use to do this half way through our car rides. Then I found a song she liked and I play that over and over, and sing it to her. She was about 6 mo old, and she was into Mickey Mouse club house, and it was the hot dog song. Maybe there's a lullaby that u can use to sooth her??

  • I put static on the radio, and that calms her down. My older kids hate it, but I tell them to suck it up.

  • An article I read had different helps for various months. And one was a wailing baby at 6 months. The answer given was baby could be tired, hungry, or bored. But one that I never thought of was motion sickness. Is it just nausea or would a baby vomit?

My LO seems to hate car rides as well. I have even sat back there with him but it didn't help. He may or may not calm down as well.

  • Whenever we go for car rides or walks we take our sleep sheep on the go and it totally helps calm her down during any situation!! It plays white noise and is small so you can transport it with you.

  • Our LO hated his seat absolutely hated the blasted thing.  Out of desperation I bought a convertible seat and TA-DA no more crying.  I also put his sunglasses on him (they velcro around his head).  We have a shade in the window but it still lets a lot of sun in.  I also give him  his taggie to cuddle.

  • LO cries as well. I think it's because he just likes to be entertained 24/7, so if someone isn't back there with him, he will lose his sh!t. We initially thought it was b/c he was too hot. So we got a custom carseat cover b/c the one that came with the carseat was not a breathable material. That helped a bit. I sing to him, talk to him, whatever I can think of...but it doesn't work sometimes. So if I know his diaper is clean and he's fed and as long as I can see him in the mirror, I have to just let him cry til he eventually taps out and falls asleep. I can't stay confined to the house.

This is exactly what I do too. I can't be on house arrest I'll go nutso

Yup, I do this too. It doesn't always work, but when it does, it conks him out

Thanks guys! Today I had a successful car ride with Tommy! I only had to sing in a really high pitch voice his name over and over and over again! Whenever I stopped he would start to cry. I did it so many times I was light headed...I guess I will have to be careful...I can't wait for my husband to be in the car when I have to do this. He is going to LOVE it!

  • My oldest daughter HATED the car.  She would SCREAM every ride.   It didn't matter if it was a 5 min ride or an hour ride.  We tried everything.  Nothing helped.  She was like this until right before her second birthday.  Hopefully it is a much shorter time for you.
  • I had a friend who's son was like this. He just had to outgrow it. My LO used to love it and fall asleep but lately he's been crying in the car. Not sure why, hopefully just a stage. But we usually turn the music up really loud and that often helps. He will fall asleep after a few minutes. I hadn't thought about the dangly toys. Maybe I should take them down.
