Toddlers: 24 Months+

Classes for your toddler

Hello,

I wanted to ask what is your toddler in in terms in classes. My dd is 31 months and she just started My gym, a gym type class. She will start preschool next week. Is that enough? I feel like she is too young for most of the things. What is your toddler part of?

Thanks very much

  • Nothing right now.  We did swim lessons around the time she turned 1 (so, a year ago), and used to take her to 1x/month story time at our local library, but she aged out of that story time program, and now the ones for her age group are on weekday mornings, so no more.  We're talking about doing swim classes again this fall, now that she's two she'll be in the next level class.

  • He does Kindermusik and Sunday school. I am starting a basic pre-K curriculum at home this year and will send him to actual pre-school next fall.
  • Our DD is obsessed with swimming!  The second we pick her up from daycare she says "pool"!!

So we actually do swim lessons twice a week (thursday and saturday) and will continue to do so during the winter.   If there was an option to do some sort of gym activity we would probably do that too, but those are only on saturday and conflict with swimming.

I just feel like our DD has so much energy and gets bored at home.

  • He does gymnastics, music, and swim lessons right now, in addition to starting preschool in a couple weeks.

In the past, we've taken trampoline and sports (soccer, basketball) classes at our local community center.

  • We tried swim classes this summer but that was a bust. We finished the 2 weeks but didn't continue. She loves the pool however so we have been going several afternoons a week during the summer. We tried a gymnastics class but I didn't like it really and they didn't have enough kids for that time slot so we stopped after those two classes (it was really unorganized, I wasn't expecting them to teach them actual gymnastics but expected it to be better organized). For the past year we have been doing Music Lingua and that is the only class we have done consistently . We go to story time once a week usually (not during the summer) mostly because we meet up with a friend there. I don't want to have too many scheduled things at this age. We are constantly on the go however but other than Music Lingua nothing is really scheduled.

  • I think that's plenty.  My DS did a gym program from Oct - June but we didn't re-enroll for this coming year.  He did a 6 week music class that just ended and a new 10 week one will start soon.  He started preschool this week, 2 days a week for 2.5 hours.

He'd be fine without any of those things, but it's so nice to have things to get us out of the house on a regular basis.  I finally got up the courage to join a Mom's Club and am so glad I did!  We go out with them once or twice a week.

I also like to bring him to the bookstore about once a week, they have storytime and there's always other kids to play with a bit, and train and lego tables.

  • During the school year, we do music class once a week, story time at the library once a week, and I try to take her to the pool once a week. It may get a bit stickier having DS now and being pregnant again. I'm sure we'll still do music and library, but the pool may be put on the back burner.

  • We do alot in the summer since I am off from work. I was going to sign DS up for either soccer or something else this fall but my DH had a good point about not booking up our weekends. Eventually we will have no choice when he is bigger and more involved. So, we will probably just go to the park/do outdoorsy things on the weekends and the library has a music/story event one Sat. a month. He is in daycare 5 days a week and that wears him out.

  • DD has been in swimming since 6 months old and gymnastics since 18 months old (on and off with the seasons). We want to start her in dance when she is 3. The swimming and gym at this stage is mostly to burn off steam and get her used to the water and following instructions and waiting her turn, etc. And we only have/will have 1-2 activities per term, not all 3 at once.

  • Thanks ladies! I see that there is a large range and it is based on the kid. My dd is very active but for now I will stick with  her gym class. She loves it. I will see how we do with preschool next week. Thanks again for all your help.
