carrier advice

Hello, I'll start off by saying my son is about 6 months old, 27in, and around 20 lbs. I currently have a Beco Gemini and I am looking for something with a larger body. I am looking into the Tula, Kinderpack, and a Boba. I don't have any way to try them out so I was wondering if I could get some advice on the pros and cons of them here. Thanks!

Re: carrier advice

  • I have a Tula Toddler and Kinderpack Toddler for a much larger kiddo, but I really love my Tula. If you want to try one out, Tula does have a rental option on its website where I think for a $50 refundable deposit and a small fee, you can rent a Tula. If you decide to buy, half the rental fee is a credit toward your order.

The boba looks great but didn't fit me right so I went with an ergo at that size... It was before I knew Tulas, Kinderpacks, and Onya Baby existed.

The Onya Baby Outback is also a great carrier.

A Manduca is also great if you are outside the US and can buy one...

  • You might really love the kinderpack. They're so comfy and you can get a bigger size for more coverage on your DS' legs, etc.

  • Just out of curiosity (because I have the Beco Gemini), are you finding that the size of your babe is making the carrier less comfortable for you or the babe?  Tell me yes, because I'm aching for a Kinderpack!  :)
  • Thanks for the input! I am leaning towards the Kinderpack because my son is a hot box and they have the mesh panels. Also they are super cute!

I feel like with the Gemini at the base there's almost not enough support for his legs and he will start to dangle. Also it is starting to hurt my shoulders so I just figured it was time to move on.

Should I sell my Gemini? I have the K'tan for when they're really small. I plan on more kids, so could I just go from that to the Kinderpack with the next baby?

  • I have a boba 3G and I love it. The dude is 20 lbs and 26". He fits great, I can nurse in it and it doesn't hurt my back. I wear him a large portion of every day. It has stirrups for his little feet and a detachable hood that snaps on. There is also a boba air that is lighter weight and mesh like. HTH!!

  • Between those 3, I prefer the Kinderpack.  Do be aware that these don't allow you to cross the straps in a front carry like the gemini does.  The Action Baby (I'd get the toddler) does allow that as does the Onya which was mentioned.  If you do go Kinderpack or Tula, you will want the standard size as the toddlers in those are huge and won't fit your LO yet.
  • Awesome, thanks for the replies everyone! I'm going with the kinderpack, I'm too excited!
