  • I take CitraNatal Assure & love it! It has a prenatal vitamin plus a DHA capsule. I took it with my first pregnancy & couldn't wait to start on it again because the OTC ones all seemed to make me sick.
  • I switched to nature made DHA.
  • folic acid is verh important for your child's brain development as well as in prevention of nervous disorder such as paralysis
  •

I think ur covered. ur taking an iron pill as well as a prenatal?

  • is that bad? i thought i was supposed to take iron too if i not really iron rich foods?
  • My prenatal already has plenty of vit C (500mg) and iron (30mg). New studies are showing women shouldn't over-supplement with calcium, as it can lead to coronary blockages.

I take Rainbow Light Prenatal One plus a teaspoon of Nordic Naturals Omega 3-6-9 fish oil daily.

If you take calcium, iron and Vit C, you should separate out the calcium from the others by at least 4 hours, as these supplements react and bind with each other in the gut, rendering each one less bioavailable to you when taken together.

@lauraperez413 probably because gummy prenatals don't contain iron.

I'm talking a gummy, but not the extra iron pill. After bloodwork the Dr. determined I didn't need the additional iron or extra reason for constipation.

  • Be sure that your prenatal has iodine -- I think a lot of the generic ones leave that out. My OB recommends Enfamil w/ DHA.
  • I started taking a target prenatal. It's very simple not to much "stuff" in there because I can't handle taking a normal vitamin

I was taking that, too, until a previous poster alerted me to the fact that it contains red raspberry leaf. This may or may not be safe in the 1st tri. Hope this doesn't freak you out, but you may want to check with your dr. Mine wanted me to switch.
  • Folic acid too but any prenatal vitamin nowadays is supposed to have all you need I just take a target brand with an iron pill because I'm anemic

  • I take a probiotic and 3-6-9 omega anyway, also Nordic naturals prenatal plus DHA
  • I take BellyBar chewable because they have iron (gummies don't) and they use beta carotene as vitamin A (instead of retinyl). When I'm really nauseous I just take 800mcg of folic acid instead.

Also, too much calcium can lead to kidney stones.  My NP actually told me to quit taking my extra calcium supplement that I had been on prepregnancy.  I'm terrified of kidney stones!

  • I'm not concerned- it got lots of great reviews and my doc didn't really care which ones i chose. Vitamins always make me sick but this one doesn't! :)

Dr said any one was fine as long as there is folic acid it in. I take a generic brand. He also said to try and get as a few servings of omega 3 a few times a week, but that its not worth taking omega 3 capsules as your body doesn't actually digest it when its not in food.

My doctor told me to take DHA supplements because studies show it help women carry to term. Since I'm overweight carrying to term is a concern or me, so you'd better believe I'm taking it! Plant based, though. Easier on the stomach.

  • One a Day prenatal
  • I like Rainbow Light prenatal and DHA. I had to take an iron supplement during my first pregnancy so I will probably be starting that again also.

  • I'm on Folic acid, calcium, iron, vit C and fish oil 6 days a week and then Jamieson prenatal one day a week.  My dr told me that taking a prenatal everyday causes too much water retention and weight gain.

  • Taking Perfectly Prenatal, Spectrum Prenatal DHA, and a calcium supplement.
  • I was taking the gummies until they made me want to throw up. I'm about to fill a prescription pre-natal.
  • I'm taking chewable prenatals, 2 a day and just a generic folic acid pill.
  • i take rainbow light 1 a day...very good for those of you who want to stay on the natural side.  you get what you need and they don't cause nausea from what i've read...i took them for my entire last pregnancy also.  you can order them on  amazon or drugstore.com
  • I took a gummy prenatal with my first and additional iron too because the gummy i was taking didn't have any iron. It worked out okay except the iron supplement made me really sick. With this pregnancy I'm taking Garden of Life Raw prenatal with raw iron and it is way easier on my stomach. A little more expensive now though because this one doesn't have DHA so I have to take an additional DHA supplement. I buy through Amazon and its half the price of buying in my local store.
  • I take Nature Made with DHA.
