Re: any one else taking zofran?

  • Yep zofran and phenegen here.
  • Loading the player...
  • Zofran here! I take it before bed and wake up feeling great :)
  • Yes maam! God Bless Zofran....
  • I took it with DS because I'd lost 8 lbs in a fairly short amount of time in my first tri. But it made me so constipated I stopped and figured the m/s would subside.

  • Dr wrote me a prescription for it but I was putting off filling it, trying to be strong and brave. (Why??) But I feel like death warmed over so I might go on my lunch break!

  • Yes! I was getting ready to PSA it and tell everyone who was holding out on calling for a prescription to DO IT because I've been making myself miserable for weeeeeeks trying to hold out. I finally got some yesterday and I feel like a whole new person.

I waited. I said I would try more B6 and just tough it out. Then finally I said F that and filled it. I'm so glad I did.

  • Yes I'm taking it and it definitely helps but is not 100% better. My tummy still hates me and I'm looking forward to fatigue which apparently comes after nausea.
  • Question for you ladies taking it..... is it not the WORST TASTING thing you've ever tasted???

Sometimes when I feel really nauseous, the thought of having that terrible tasting pill dissolve on my tongue makes me feel even worse.

But you're right, the relief is worth it. But I know it's just a matter of time before the actual pill makes me throw up.

  • Zofran doesn't help me anymore. :( Picking up a new prescription today, I'm not even sure of the name but I think it starts with d??

  • Yes!!!! I'm actually getting crap done again, and was even able to go grocery shopping! Poor ds had to go 3 days without his favorite juice. :(
  • I take Zofran during the day when I feel nauseous. And I also have an ointment version of Phenergan that I rub on my wrist before I go to bed and I never wake up nauseous anymore! :)

Mine doesn't taste like anything, its a small white pill in the shape of a football that i just swallow with water and don't taste.  Maybe you have a different kind?
  • The best is my friends saying, oh you are taking a pill, you shouldn't be taking pills when you are pregnant.  I said oh really, and when did you get your medical license?  Ugh, people are so annoying!
  • I can't get out of bed without my zofran. I have a fear of vomiting so my anxiety level was through the roof and work was unbearable without it. The one that dissolves in your mouth is called the ODT (orally dissolving tablet) you can certainly ask your doc for the regular tab. I don't think I could handle the extra "flavor" on top of nausea.
  • SO I FINALLY TOOK ONE this morning and it was the best thing I've ever done. finally some relief! I thought the flavor wasn't bad until I swallowed it. The after taste made me shudder

  • Called my Dr.'s office this morning for Phenergan (Promothezine) for nausea/vomiting and Fioricet for my migraines.  I was taking both in my previous pregnancy.

Thanks @kgurlster! I also suffer from anxiety associated with vomiting... so it's been extra hard for me. I haven't actually thrown up yet, but constantly feeling like I have to is almost worse! Glad to know someone else out there can relate. I'm def going to request the pillow that can be swallowed.. not dissolving.

This is what I was going to say! Mine is a tiny white diamond shaped pill that I can swallow with my spit - no dissolving on my tongue at all.

  • @CHD84 - I can totally relate to your anxiety. I have emetophobia - I was diagnosed with it when I was 19 years old. It's a debilitating fear of vomit. I know it's weird to most people, and I don't know why I have the phobia, I just do. I handle it much better now after years of intermittent therapy.

  • @wifeofacomposer I know I have that too... I've never "officially" been diagnosed but I know I have it. I have officially been diagnosed with anxiety and depression... and nausea/vomiting has always been associated with panic attacks with me.

How are you dealing with this nausea from first tri? I am constantly anxious, especially when I'm feeling sick. Are you taking a lot of Zofran? I haven't thrown up yet, but I feel so miserable, and of course my anxiety is in overdrive.

  • That is so scary. I'm sorry you're having such a difficult time, and I know EXACTLY how you're feeling @CHD84 - I'm taking Zofran every 4 hours and Zantac every 10 hours. It's a new adventure every day. Honestly, my best therapy and support comes from my 6-year-old and my husband. I had a very tough time coping whenever Skippy got sick as a toddler, but I was a single mom at that time, and I'm the only one who could care for him. It's amazing what you can overcome for your child. And, I'm very lucky that he is so nonchalant about vomiting, like it's no big deal - even the other day he said his stomach was upset and he needed to puke. He asked if I wanted to go with him to see that it's no big deal. I declined, but he left the bathroom door open so I could hear the whole thing, and then he announced "See Mom? I feel so much better now. I'll just have some water to get rid of the burning in my throat, and I'm okay. It's safe."
Having a supportive husband and kid are so helpful in this. When I start to panic, they talk me through it. Thankfully, our doctors are also very understanding, and that's why I have the Zofran prescription to prevent vomiting. Even with the medicine, I still get the gagging episodes and worrisome nausea, but it's manageable.
In all seriousness, because this is a major topic of my life, if you ever want to talk about it you can private message me any time.

  • I am. It has helped a TON but now I'm horribly constipated.

  • That's my current problem!! Are you taking anything for it?? If so what have you found that works? I'm so disgustingly bloated and I can't tell if its from baby or constipation (probably both).
  • I'm taking Collace but I am on day 4 here with nothing...I really hope I can fix this problem bc I LOVE the Zofran!  It has changed my entire day and I don't want to have to go back to being so sick.  I teach second grade and have a 1.5 yr old at home.  Its too hard to be that sick!

I'm a pediatric nurse and idk why it took me so long, but I'm going to try what I tell my patients: apple juice mixed with pear juice (I can't stand prunes in any form) then it's on to the big rigs: miralax, if that doesn't work.
  • Zofran 3x a day 1/2unisom at night and colace for the ....ahem....side effect of zofran. So far so good. Still get episodes of ms but not nearly as bad as without.
