Baby won't stay still for diaper/clothes changes

OK does anyone have any tips for me.  changing a poopy diaper is not so easy when my little guy wants to roll over, sit up, etc.  He's a strong little guy and it's so hard to keep him in one place.

  • Story of my life! I give DS the diaper to hold. I make a big deal that he's mommy's helper and such a big boy...he has no idea what I'm saying, so I probably just look like an idiot! :D He smiles and swings the diaper around like a lasso, which keeps him occupied until I can get him cleaned up then all bets are off! It's better than poop everywhere though!

  • This has started happening to me lately. I often give her a toy to hold to distract her. I was also thinking about putting a mobile above the changing table, or would that be weird?

  • Sorry to be that annoying BTDT mom but it's only going to get so much worse.  You can try a toy for distraction or just get really fast and efficient at it.

  • DD is getting more difficult but I can usually distract her with a toy or something she isn't supposed to have (TV remote, cell phone, etc...). My sister has 3 kids and whenever she does a diaper change she just swings one of her legs over their middle and pins them to the ground :)
I totally did this today when I was changing him on the floor.  He had already squirmed away and was crawling off with his romper up on his stomach and half a diaper fastened.  I scooted him back, pinned him down with my leg and finished, laughing the entire time.

This. I've learned to change pee diapers while he's standing up. It just gets worse so go fast!
HAHAHA totally.  I do the standing diaper change a fair amount as well!

  • I agree with pp-its not going to get easier. I have had to pin her with my leg for a poopy change. Occasionally an off limits item (like a crinkly package) will hold her attention long enough to stay still.

  • I hear ya!  A toy used to work, if I was fast.  Now she throws the toy after like 5 seconds and is off trying to crawl around!  I have gotten pretty good at fastening the new diaper while she is sitting.

For poop diapers that require more concentration from me, I can buy a little time by blowing raspberries on her tummy and singing. But it definitely is a struggle.

  • This is my life. I give her a toy and try to change her as fast as I can.
  • Thanks everyone!

  • I agree with PP. Giving DS a toy to play with occupies him for a small amount of time. And go quick!

  • Lol Both my boys have discovered they can go, and do they ever! Honestly, there isn't much that has worked so far. Sometimes if I give them something to play with it keeps them still for a second. Just today I've already changed diapers while they were standing up or crawling away. Short of strapping them down to a table I don't have much hope of it getting any better.
  • well today I gave him the lotion tube to hold and that gave me time to make the change! Hoping this works for a while until I get better at changing these diapers fast.
