Another tooth discussion

M had his 4-month Appointment this morning. When the CNP looked inside his mouth and I asked if she saw any tooth buds (we hadn't, but it's hard to really look when M just licks us to death when we try) and she said "no, not yet. Teeth aren't typical until six months or so". That surprised me because I know mamas have talked about teeth coming in aaaand M has some teething symptoms (chewing his fist until its red, sucking the wash cloth in the bathtub...). Just thought teeth came slightly earlier. Oh well

Re: Another tooth discussion

  • I think the break through of the tooth happens more around six months for most but a lot happens before we see anything. My LO has the signs but I think it will still be awhile before we see it.

  • Before we see their teeth, they're coming through bone, which really hurts - probably why your LO is showing signs of teething.

    Oops. Wrong discussion. Sorry.

  • My pedi said that even though we shouldn't expect teeth until 7 months or so, that all babies start drooling and chewing around 4 months.
  • her two bottom teeth popped thru at the same time right at 3 months! its possible!! lol
  • Little man has a bottom tooth that just started to poke through today. It's a sharp little sucker too so I have a feeling breast feeding is about to get interesting. (He's a little over 4 months, but has been showing signs of teething since about 3 months )

The average is just that- an average. DD's bottom front two have already pooped up!

Yes as pp said its average..at work we determine tooth development by very early early average delayed and very delayed..everyone is different and grows different. Its possible and doesn't mean anything if someone is early or late

  • I used this chart a lot with DS. He didn't get his first tooth until 8 mos. and then nothing until after a year. My niece, however, was born with a tooth, one of my nephews got his first one at 4 mos. and yet another didn't get any teeth until after a year! It's a crapshoot!!

  • There was a lady in the waiting room with a 7 month old who had 7 teeth already, even molars, and more coming in. Lol.

Are teeth positions genetic? My husband has an overlapping tooth and my teeth are crooked as hell. I have it in my head that we will have to get braces for our kids. I wish I had braces but that would have required surgery.

  • Teeth are generally a crap shoot. Ginny is working on #3 and Charlie had all 20 of his by about 15-18 months. It was wild.

I see, my jaw is weird, which is why I could not get braces so easily. Top one is smaller than my lower one. I don't know about hubby's though. Thanks!
