Pregnancy Breakouts

I'd been on the pill for 5 years and stopped taking them in May.  Ever since then I've been noticing more zits on my face and back.  ESPECIALLY after becoming pregnant.  Anyone else have this problem?  What is the best/safest/quickest/most gentle way to get rid of them?  I feel like I wake up every day with a new one.  Ugh.

Re: Pregnancy Breakouts

  • My face just started breaking out yesterday. So fun. No solutions, as my old ones involved "not okay" ingredients. Does anyone know if witch hazel is still okay to use?

  • Not sure about witch hazel, but I've been using Murad's spot treatment and it's been a miracle worker for me. It's made with sulfur, so it's a little stinky, but works like a charm.

  • Witch hazel is natural, and has been around forever, so I can't imagine it being bad. I'm still using it. Although, don't go by me, ask your doc.

  • Hi there!

I'm breaking out some too. I have read that Witch Hazel is okay to use, but that it can be very drying. I'm trying to up my water intake, cut back on refined sugar, and avoid dairy at all costs. My breakouts seem to be tapering off (knock on wood!). I also go to acupuncture and that helps ease some of these pregnancy symptoms.

I picked up a clay mask at Whole Foods called Queen Helene's (I think) Mint Julep Mask and I'm contemplating using it as a spot treatment to dry a few spots up. I've been Googling and finding other pregnant women who use it with success, but I'm still a tiny bit nervous to use it.

I think the best course of action is looking at diet. Best of luck! I know having breakouts when you're supposed to have that mythical glow is no fun whatsoever.

  • I broke out terribly from ~6 wks to after first tri last time. Just have to ride it out - attacking your face with a bunch of products will probably make it worse because it's due to hormones, not oil or clogged pores. This time it's been not as bad, and I'm hoping I'm on the upswing and I'll be over it before the end of 1st tri.

  • Breaking out here too.  The one on my neck is ridiculous.  I'm not doing anything different than daily face washing.  I figure it is just something I have to deal with.
