Recommend your cold lunch

My work doesn't have a microwave so I need to pack some cold lunches. Literally all I want is ham and cheese... But I'm sure there's more to life than that. Oh, and I've eaten so much salad that if I see another I'm going to lose it. Thoughts???

(Side note, I miss you all. Now that school has started... My life is gonzo. Fantastic. lol)

Re: Recommend your cold lunch

  • Pb&j is my go-to. Or sometimes I'll bring a whole bunch of snacks, like a bowl of grapes, some pretzels, string cheese and a few other things.

  • Pb&j is my go-to. Or sometimes I'll bring a whole bunch of snacks, like a bowl of grapes, some pretzels, string cheese and a few other things.

I second this. I been doing peanut butter n jelly, Greek yogurt, string cheese, banana, other snacks.

  • I'm pretty much pb&j this first week of school.  I can eat it with one hand while I check emails and folders with the other.  Yogurt is my fave after school snack to get me through until I leave for home.

For a change, I like a cold pasta salad.  al dente pasta, grape tomatoes, tiny mozzarella balls, pancetta (sp?) and maybe some pesto for mixing or just a bit of olive oil and fresh squeeze lemon.  I make it the night before for dinner and make tons for leftovers.  It tastes good cold or room temp.

Another one - fresh bread (not the loaf kind, the fancy kind!) yummy cheese, grapes, tomato salad, apples, and some kind of nut to snack on.  I call it my European lunch, minus the wine!

Have a great first week at school!

  • Pb&j was my standby pretty much all my life until DD's allergy. I miss it!
Now I bring a lot of snacks - fruit, graham crackers, string cheese, etc. plus sometimes sneak some pb or nuts in at work.

I love trail mix and granola as snacks/lunch.

  • Wraps! Bake some extra chicken at dinner time, then chop it up with spinach/lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, etc inside a tortilla. Just put dressing (if you want some) in a small container or your wrap will end up soggy.

I also second the pasta salad idea- my husband loves this as a good change to his normal sandwich.

  • As many other posters have said, I love me some pb&j. Do you have a fridge at work? What about cold pizza? Mmm pizza. Pasta salad is a good idea too. Or various other salads--macaroni, broccoli, etc. Damn now my stomach is growling!

I do hard boiled eggs (add S&P), a half a large avocado (again, add S&P and eat it with a spoon), apple slices with lemon (sometimes I bring a jar of all natural peanut butter for dipping), carrot sticks (hated them pre-pg, now love them) and raisins (for something sweet).  Now that I can eat meat again, I've also been known to bring a can of tuna in olive oil (once a week), and (pre-cooked) ground beef with seasoning (today the avocado went on top and it was delicious).  I still have an aversion to nuts, but pre-pg I liked cashews, almonds and brazil nuts.  Once these aren't on the dont-even-mention-them list, I'll bring them too.

I feel like I have 100s of little bags with me everyday, but it gets me through and keeps me full.  Hunger = nausea, and nausea = the enemy.  Good luck!

  • Bagels & cream cheese. Cheese and crackers. Fruit snacks. Goldfish. String cheese. Fruit. Granola (bars). Yogurt. Cereal.
  • Apples and honey peanut butter. Also grapes and cheddar cheese cubes.
  • Tuna salad sandwich. Low in mercury and usually one can will give me two sandwiches. Or chicken salad if you like that better. They also have salmon packs which are good with some dressing in crackers. I love yogurt anytime of day and there are so many different flavors.
