Breastmilk on sheets

I can't seem to keep breastmilk off my bedsheets when I feed my LO during the night. What do you do to help prevent this if you nurse in bed at night?

Re: Breastmilk on sheets

  • We had a couple extra cloth protector pads for the bassinet, sometimes I would lay one beneath me and LO when I was especially leaky.

  • Not sure I understand how you're getting milk on your sheets when you feed LO...I just made sure to have pads on the side that wasn't being used and an extra burp cloth on hand, though.
  • Man I can relate.  I was always a big leaker and I would get milk all over the sheets all the time.  It just happened, either the other side leaked while I fed the baby and I would forget to put a nursing pad on, or I leaked THROUGH the nursing pad through my shirt and on the sheets, OR the baby pulled away while let-down and sprayed milk all over the sheets.  I just changed my sheets about once a week. :)
  • I'm glad I'm not the only one! Yeah she either will pull off and I will still be spraying, she will drool, or I will leak through the pad I am holding on my other breast. I've tried a towel/pad under us and it doesn't seem to stay put. Maybe I will just continue doing the frequent washing.

  • Prefolds!! Best burp cloths ever! We have used them for so many things. :)

I bought them bc I thought i might like them as a diapering option... and I like cloth, just not prefolds.

I don't feed in bed much because lo has reflux and can't handle being full laying down, but when I did it, a few go under him and myself.

Last night he managed to spit up behind my low back in the rocker. If you can figure that one out, that'd be much appreciated! hehe

  • I lay a prefold/burp cloth down under us when we nurse side-lying. Sometimes it catches it, sometimes it shifts or soaks through. I change the sheets a lot! For the first few weeks I would leak through my breast pads and top right on to the sheets while sleeping, so I'd stick a prefold in my bra since the breast pads weren't cutting it for several hours of sleep. Now that's let up and I'm not leaking as much as I was, so one breast pad usually is fine for the night.

  • I used one of those soft waterproof mats like they have at the hospital. They are bigger and don't move around at much.

Where did you get them? Just someplace like Amazon?

  • I just lay a handtowel down so we're both on it.  It's for both me leaking and DS spitting up or drooling.

This. I keep a hand towel over my boppy also. My kids are super messy eaters.

  • Waterproof mattress pad and a towel underneath my sleeping side.
  • I second the prefolds. Also the best burp cloths! And my mom is still using the ones from when I was a baby as cleaning cloths (I'm 32!).
