Up until 4 months old my LO went to bed at 10pm. He could fall asleep on his own with no issues. Then I started working on moving up his bedtime as I realized he was getting overly tired and actually wanted to go to bed earlier. We started with 7:30 and then settled on 8pm. We have the same bedtime routine as before with bath, nurse, and story. I started running into issues where he would fall asleep from nursing and then we wouldn't get any story read. So now I've changed the routine to bath, story, nurse. The pediatrician told me I need to stop nursing him to sleep and instead get him to fall asleep on his own. We started doing that and let him fuss on his own until he fell asleep. That was working well. Now, there were still times I nursed him to sleep, but if I didn't he could still fall asleep on his own.
Now, we started solids (cereals) just over a week ago and that somewhat coincides with my LO sleeping issue. Now, he cannot fall asleep on his own. I've even put him down when he has fallen asleep from nursing and he wakes back up. The pediatrician told me to let him CIO for 15 minutes to see if he can fall asleep on his own. That has really backfired. Letting him CIO actually ends up making him totally wired. I don't know what to do to get him to fall asleep on his own again. It is frustrating to see how he has seriously regressed on his sleeping. Is it because of solids, or does this just happen with 5 month olds? Should I revert back to nursing him to sleep or keep pushing with the falling asleep on his own. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Pretty sure I read some time ago that introducing cereal can have that effect on babies...their little bodies are trying to digest the cereal. I believe I read that adding cereal helps 1/3 of babies sleep better, and 1/3 there is no difference and 1/3 sleep less.
It's possible your baby falls in the 1/3rd that it interrupts sleep. My daughter is the same age and she is regressing a bit in the last week and a bit too though so it might just be a developmental thing. We skipped cereals and are doing BLW so cereal is not what is interrupting my babies sleep routine.
I have no problem nursing to sleep. I like to do something before bed that relaxes me...I can't see why it's bad to do that with a young baby. At some point you'll have to move away from that but no need for it to be so young.
I go to doctor for medical advice not for child rearing advice, anything they say in that regard is merely a suggestion.
