Disney question: waiting in line

Any tips for waiting in line ups with a very active 2 year old boy?  He usually doesn't stand still anywhere... im nervous about the line ups.  We are going to get fast passes where possible but I know there will be some waiting.  We are going to bring a carrier for if we get desperate (at least then he will be fighting us to move but still attched to me), and snacks.  Any other tips?

Re: Disney question: waiting in line

  • A few of the new kids rides have entertainment for kids while they wait, I know the Winnie the Pooh ride does.  I cannot remember which others do.  Other than that snacks like the Pp stated, using the fast pass so they don't have to wait in lines at every ride, and maybe having one parent wait in line and the child joining in line later (I saw that happen a few times).  Your child will probably do better than you expect; I know DD did better than we were expecting.

  • DD was in a stroller for our first trip, so she just kicked back and relaxed. Are you not taking a stroller?
  • And I just realized you asked about lines. Lord. Sorry! Anyway, on the lines that you couldn't take the stroller, a carrier would be good, snacks are good and honestly there is a lot of "stuff" to look at.
  • Does he understand "I Spy"...? Most of the Disney rides have things to look at while you wait.

  • Lol Kate, disney without a stroller... im not that crazy.
I don't think he understands I spy yet, but it would be a good time to teach him.

  • 1. Get to the parks early.  When I say early, I mean before they open.  Most people don't want to get up early on their vacations, so those first few hours are some of the least busy of the entire day and a great way to avoid long lines and crowds.

    2. If you do get there early, go on the most popular rides first and get those out of the way.  Don't waste them dillydallying or like me trying to get a pawtograph from Lady and the Tramp.

    3. If you are eligible for Extra Magic Hours, use them.  If not, avoid the park that has them.  A general rule of thumb is to go to a park the day after is has Extra Magic Hours.

    4. Saturdays and Mondays tend to be the busiest days of the week for Magic Kingdom.

    5. Have a plan or a order of rides you want to do each day.  I know that might sound crazy, but it does work.  Most families waste an incredible amount of time trying to decide what to ride next and where to go.  Having a plan ahead of time really cuts down on that wasted time.  You don't even need a plan for the entire day.  The first few hours would work.

    6. When we were in line, what helped us were bubbles ( the kind you give out at a wedding) during the day and glow sticks at night.

We went last Oct and waited an average of ten minutes for the rides.  Some lines were longer and others we walked right on.  I think the longest we waited was 25 minutes for Dumbo, but that waiting area was also a playground so it wasn't too bad.

  • For Disneyland ?   Hmm maybe Ridemax or possibly also touringplans ( although touringplans isn't free).
